Why do breasts swell and get hard?

I've never noticed my breasts swelling and getting hard, a little tingly maybe. Now nipples on the other hand... rosy and swollen, yes.

Since we're on the subject of breasts... is it normal for the aereola to get puckered up, whether excited or not?... when they normally stay smooth all the time?

Mine get all puckered up when I get excited.

My breasts have an entirely different shape when my nipples are erect. My nipples also pucker up a lot - they get very hard.

I have no idea why though, PB.

The nipple part I get...it's the actual breast tissue itself that swells and gets hard that I don't get.

I don't quite buy the antrho explination as it doesn't last.

My theory: your breasts swell and get hard for the same reason they swell before, during, and after a period.... hormone levels


Licky, each of my nipples is different when i'm aroused. One is very hard and wrinkled, the other isn't. They've always been that way.

I like Island's explanation, but thats probably just a guy thing.

I'd suggest that every female in lit submit breast photos so we can research this subject.

It's simple biology: There are a number of veins, arteries, and capillaries in a woman's breasts. When she becomes aroused, her heart beast faster, causing blood to flow more quickly thorugh her veins. Since the veins in her breasts usually don't have much blood, the have to swell to accomodate for the extra blood being pumped through them. This is why women's breasts are generally more sensitive during arousal.
