Why did Obama win the Nobel Peace Prize?

That oughta cover most of it.

Because he wasn’t George W. Bush or one of his Neo-Conservatives (really, that’s all that mattered) and the Nobel committee wanted to send a message so obvious even W would feel the slap in his cups while chatting up the sales folks of the Waco Walmart.

Thank you for doing your not-really-civic-duty-civic-duty.

He was a leader who at least somewhat understood that microphones amplify voices and thus there was no reason to yell.

You have a point.

One reason why I messed this thread up a bit is the time I spent trying to find a decent link for "The Idea of Obama" by Tom Tomorrow. I would have waited, but with all the talk about a Nobel Prize for Trump, it was kinda post or perish.

WHY? Because a private group made a private decision that cost us nothing and that we know shit about. The WHY? is the private business of a private group, not our business. Buncha nosy gossips here. Cluck cluck cluck.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/King_Faisal_International_Prize
King Faisal International Prize (Arabic: جائزة الملك فيصل العالمية‬‎) is an annual award sponsored by King Faisal Foundation presented to "dedicated men and women whose contributions make a positive difference".[2][3] The foundation awards prizes in five categories: Service to Islam; Islamic studies; Arabic Language and Literature; Science; Medicine.

The first King Faisal International Prize was awarded to Sayyid Abul Ala’a Al-Mowdoodi in the year 1979 for his service to Islam. In 1981, King Khalid received the same award.[4] In 1984, King Fahd was the recipient of the award.[5] In 1986, this prize was co-awarded to Ahmed Deedat and French Roger Garaudy.[6]

Prizes

The prize in each of the five categories consists of:

A hand written Diwani calligraphy certificate, summarizing the laureate's work.
A commemorative 24 carat, 200 gram gold medal, uniquely cast for each prize.
A cash endowment of SR 750,000 (US$ 200,000).

Co-winners in any category share the monetary grant. The Prizes are awarded during a ceremony in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, under the auspices of the King of Saudi Arabia.[3]

Kyoto Prize
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kyoto_Prize

The Kyoto Prize (京都賞 Kyōto-shō) is Japan's highest private award for global achievement. The Kyoto Prize is given not only to those that are top representatives of their own respective field, but also to those that have contributed to humanity with their work. The Kyoto Prizes are regarded by many as the most prestigious award available in fields that are traditionally not honored with a Nobel Prize.[1] The Prize has been awarded annually since 1985 by the Inamori Foundation, founded by Kazuo Inamori.[2] The honorary president of the Foundation is Princess Takamado.

Information

The Kyoto Prize has been awarded annually to "those who have contributed significantly to the scientific, cultural, and spiritual betterment of mankind".[3] The Prizes are given in the fields of Advanced Technology, Basic Sciences, and Arts and Philosophy. Within each broad category, the prize rotates among subfields, e.g. the Kyoto Prize in Advanced Technology rotates across electronics, biotechnology, materials science and engineering, and information science. The Prizes are regarded by many as the most prestigious award available in fields that are traditionally not honored with a Nobel Prize.[1]

The laureates are announced each June; the prize presentation ceremony and related events are held in Kyoto, Japan, each November. The Prizes were endowed with 50 million yen[2] (roughly some US$ 450,000).

This was what I said, and it was also admitted by the head of the Nobel Committee.

Other. So we’d remember what it was like to have a civilized, intelligent, law abiding, sophisticated gentleman with a fine family occupying the White House.

Probably because he was black.

This is the same man who had a US citizen executed in the M.E. by a drone without trial, then targeted the rest of his (entirely innocent) family, one of Obama's advisers justified the killing of the son with the statement "Should've had a more responsible father", and then retroactively legalized assassinating US citizens overseas without trial. Just one among hundreds of examples of brutality waged in foreign countries under Obama's command. If we were serious about holding peace in high regard and stuck to facts and objectivity he would never have even been nominated for a NPP.

Fun fact that doesn't get talked about enough: The last member of the family to survive Obama's assassination campaign was Nawar Al-Awlaki, who was about 4 years old when her family was wiped out, was actually killed in Donald Trump's first military act as president. The raid that went sideways a few weeks into his term. Small world I guess.

"But why does everybody in the Middle East hate us??" ~99% of politicians in Washington.
