Well, I wrote this FAQ for this site and submitted it.

And lo, it was posted on thier site. And I'm like :D.

Anyway, now my mailbox is full of idiotic emails of people asking me questions that if they would read the damn FAQ I spent like 5 hours writing they would be able to find the answers.

But, no, they seem content to just skim through the FAQ to my email at the way bottom of the page reserved for the people who want to post my FAQ on their fan site and then bombard me with their questions.

Heh, next time I'll put a fake email on the FAQ.

*evil grin*

Anyone have similar experiences?

Just create another email addy specifically for that FAQ, then create an auto-responder that replies to all emails wit ha statement sayingthat if they are asking questions to read the FAQ or post to the webmaster/forum/etc., otherwise if the email is a suggestion then you may or may not get back to them.

Anyone have similar experiences?
No - unfortunately not many people visit my websites. I have moved my professional website with my resume to the space alloted me by my ISP, and then coverted my free website space to a motorcycle website. The latter should start to get more visitations because it will soon have more interesting info than just my resume and a few software engineering links.

I am probably going to move all my websites to a paid host; the free website host is totally unreliable - they are regularly totally off-line for several days at a time, and now that people are actually going to be visiting the site, I don't want them to think it has dissappeared.

That happened to me too. On a free server called Xoom. My site just up and went "poof" into nothingness for days at a time. Really annoyed the shit out of me.

Ultimately, the site is down or deleted and I lost a lot of my prized files I had there.

Oh well.

I'm not computer literate enough to make a auto responder...I'll have to read up on that tonight.

Just make a contact page or a note beside your email and wrote that you will anwswer only the questions that arent ansewerd in the FAQ, that way if you dont reply nobody will be mad at you.

Most of the free hosting sites that don't have banners/ads are long gone, what is left are pitiful in their support and reliability. There are some decent low cost hosts out there though.

Well I am sure you know this now, but never put anything on your web site that you don't have backedup on your computer. Indeed, I have both my websites laid out on my computer first, then I upload to the website.

It isn't hard, as I recall it is built into most email clients. In Outlook you can also just create a Message Rule that will autoreply, with a predefined email message, to any message that meets the conditions you define, such as email coming in to a certain address.

Heh, I'll need to check that out STG.

As for your suggestion, Deja ( I dunno how to get the little "'" over your name hehe) I'll add that to my future faqs.

Arigatou for the assistance.

Ah yes, STG, losing my files was the lesson that taught me that CD-RW drives are our friends! :)
