When China celebrated its 65th anniversary of National Day on Oct 1, Hong Kong, which was returned to China by the UK in 1997, saw the largest protests. China foreign minister Wang Yi warned his counterpart of the US John Kerry not to support HK activists. What has the US done? Does it still think it can handle a lot of things at the same time when there have been a handful? Why not let the dog sleep for a while?
Interestingly, in the eve of the National Day, Chinese leadership as usual took part in the grand reception to celebrate, but this time the previous leadership members all showed up, including former prime minister Li Peng.When the current administration is intensifying the efforts to combat corruption, present at the reception party there was a well-known alleged corrupt official Zeng Qinghong, whose son has been arrested for making profits taking advantage of his father's power.
