I don't think Corn is really a food. As far as I can see it is a bundle of starch with little nutritional value covered with a plastic looking coating. The body may not be able to digest the protective coating though there is nothing much while inside.

Don't eat the stuff myself.
 
The stomach environment is acidic. Corn is broken down better in a basic environment, even primitive cultures knew that.
