Why Can't They Have Real-Time Editing?

There's several writing sites on the internet (adultfanfiction.net, writing.com, ficwad.com, fanfiction.net, fictionpress.com) which allow you to simply write and submit work instantaneously. Also they allow you the option of editing your work and having it updated immediately. And the writing on these others sites is every bit as passable as the writing on literotica.

Is it really necessary to have all these moderators and editors and three to seven days of waiting before anything is posted? Does anyone else wish this site would update and be more user friendly?

From what I've seen and read, Lit likes to have some control over what is posted to this site..... Mostly for legal reasons....

As for it not being user friendly.... To each his own.... I find the site to be highly friendly....... :D

Yes it is necessary to have everything reviewed.

Lit has very specific rules about what can be posted. Somethings like no bestiality and no people under eighteen are very important as there are people out there who would shut this site down in a New York minute given the slightest excuse.

Lit actually used to be faster about posting, etc, but as the site has grown in size, they run short on Mods, and people to work behind the scenes I think.
Also, there are a lot of things Lit DOESN'T accept, and they have to be very strict about it. Most of th eother sites mentioned have much more lenient guidelines as to waht is and is not allowed.

While I understand the site has guidelines and things it doesn't except I would think it would be easier and more practical for the moderators to simply scan the new submissions and new edits looking for inappropriate content (using keyword searches, flags and abuse reports from users) rather than reading every single story and every single edit.

There's no use complaining about it as it will not change things, the owners of the site have laid out their plans and rules and we have to abide by them. If you don't like them, don't post here...it's as simple as that.

I do wonder, though... Laurel must be just swamped... Monthly Reader's Choice Awards are 6 months (!!!) behind... how will they ever get caught up???

I am merely discussing it and sighting possible alternatives; nothing more.

I personally believe that as popular as this site is, it will eventually begin to decline in popularity if it doesn't start updating with the times a bit.

The demise of this site has been foretold since day one..... and it's still here and growing everyday.... most of the sites you mentioned in your first post are either new or will be gone long before this one ever has problem..... keeping control keeps away problems that shut sites down.

So what's to discuss.....

Exactly.

It never ceases to amaze me. We have a place to post our work and talk with our friends.....all for free, and people still want to complain.

Cloudy, relax. I am merely mentioning one aspect of the site that I personally wish was run a bit better and pointing out a possible remedy. I'm not saying the site sucks or the moderators don't know what they're doing. Overall this is a good site with an excellent following.

This board is for people to state opinions. Even ones that you may not agree with; calm down.

You need to chill. I'm always calm.

eta: Look, I'm not trying to be harsh, but you're new (you don't even know how to use the quote function yet), and in one of your first posts, you complain about a site that most of us have been using comfortably for quite some time. How did you think we would react?

Hey hey Cloudy, play nice with the newbie. He has a good query and newness is no reason for his opinion to be invalid. He's asking a question, not demanding a response.

Excalibur: As people have said, the owners feel that reading every story is important. Automated systems aren't foolproof and one child story that slipped through the net would be enough for Laurel and Manu to be the latest child-porn demons.

They're being careful and I guess it takes time. They cannot afford to pay loads of people to do the work (as I understand it, Lit doesn't make money from advertising; it only just breaks even), so sometimes they're slow. But they do it to stay safe.

Every site that operates without editorial control being held by the site owners is in danger of being shut down for child porn and other illegal content. One case is being tried right now which concerns internet fiction/child pornography.

The only reasons people wish to bypass the story vetting process are to post prohibited/illegal material or to drivel which otherwise would be unacceptable due to misspellings, poor grammar and plagiarism.

For the thread starter - try getting your writing published by a mainstream print publisher without a wait before you complain about the 3 to 7 days it takes to be published on Literotica.

I was really trying not to be harsh, but I get rather tired of the complaining at times.

*shrug*

And, I'm in a bitchy place at the mo. ;)

eta: what kbate said is right on the money.

Just so. I submitted my story to Phaze back in September. I didn't get notice of acceptance until last week. The story won't be published until next February.

Lit's quick by those standards.

Just off everyone's comments (sorry to pick you out Cloudy, you were the one whom I saw first), he doesn't appear to be whinging. He's asking a question and offering possible improvements. We've given him the answer why his improvements haven't happened, which wouldn't be immediately obvious knowledge to a newbie.

I know we like to defend this great site from any imprecations, but we should be careful not to bite the head off someone who doesn't appear to be attacking.
