Why can't I see the comments on some stories?

Unfortunately, the author shut off allowing public comments...which then disabled seeing any previous comments left. It doesn’t eliminate the number, though, at the bottom of each page of the story.

I’ve seen it a lot, and it’s disheartening. I like to read (and receive) story comments. An author can always delete individual comments they don’t like without shutting it all off.

Writers shut down comments for all sorts of reasons. I agree, it's disappointing not being able to read comments, but I think the writer's wishes should always take precedence. Thankfully, the site has given writers control over ways to do this.
