Why do today's beds (matress/box spring/frame) go halfway up to the ceiling?

I don't get it.

Beds used to be quite high, probably so livestock could sleep underneath.:D

Ah. Renard Yates is just a little guy, like his hero Drumpf. No wonder he's so angry all the time.

Why does Renard carry a bible with him at all times?

So that you can cram more boxes of crap underneath.
Crap you claim you need and must keep, yet will never use again.

If you roll out of bed in your sleep from up that high, you could get hurt.

I used to own a nice high bed.
Then I bought a very low one. I really loove this bed, but I hate the low height, and have just ordered steps to raise it.

I've wondered why beds (as well as sofas and chairs) were so low in my country. As a tall person, it really sucks to get out of bed when your hips are lower than your knees. I finally got my hands on a proper bed and I can slide off of it rather than having to heave myself out of it. I can also dangle my legs off the edge - another rare joy for me.

I'd have thought in colder countries beds would be as far off the floor as possible.

Japan.

Somewhere in the early 70's we bought a kingsized waterbed with a very large stained glass headboard with shelfs. It set on a tall pedistal with three drawers on each side. At the foot is a nice padded seat. We slept on that waterbed until a few months ago when we moved and left it behind. I miss my waterbed and all the ceramic titties on the headboard.!:(

Now we have three bedrooms with three normal full beds and normal height. They were like new since the little old lady who lived there slept in the living room because of health.
I can not sleep on a hard bed. On two of the beds we added one thick Memory foam mat and one pillow top padded mat. These made the two beds taller. I am 6' and my wife 5'2". Perfect for getting in and out.
Not liking two sleeping on a narrow bed we each now have one slightly taller bed that is comfortable. With the top bed spread and a skirting I have no idea how much space is under them. But now both beds are comfortable. If company comes they can sleep on the third harder bed next to the new washer/dryer we installed.

We spent a weekend with friends. The bed we slept on was so tall it had a 3 or 4 step tall ladder. Still that kingsized bed was so hard it was like laying on the floor. Why have so many mattresses and box springs yet a bed of cement?
Most hotel and motel beds are also too hard.

Speaking of beds too high! Have you noticed the price of a new bed?

I enjoy jumping a 5'4" girl in a bed.:)

I'm laughing at this!! I'm barely 5' and since arriving at my parent's, I've had to get a running start to get into bed each night.

So I dont have to bend getting out of bed.

I should add, I bought a bed I could roll out of last time rather than not being able to get out because my back deal with the gaps on bad days.
