Why are people surprised?

I've seen the sentiment pop up again and again in threads... "I'm surprised so many intelligent people are posting on a 'porn' board."

Other than the fact that I consider this an adult community, not a porn board (though in a very freudian moment, I originally spelled community cummunity ) why the surprise that smart people visit and post? That in fact most of the 'regulars' are interesting intelligent people who can speak quite well about a variety of topics, including sex? Are smart people not supposed to also be sexual?

I'm not bitching, I'm honestly curious about what generates the surprise.

I agree with you PCG. This is an ADULT community, not a porn board. Yes, we get a little erotic and maybe our avs and amateur pics are a little erotic but porn...no.

For the most part, people here are very witty and intelligent. I believe they began by looking for an outlet for their creative writing talents and in seeking critism came to the boards. Where better to find your peers than on the boards where the interests are mutual.

I think those who feel this is strictly a porn site are the ones who lack intelligence. That's their problem.

The same misconception is believed about the erotica writers. I belong to a listserve and these folks are some the most funny, witty, literate, educated people I have ever encountered online. Most are professionals and not one contributes drivel about how he'd like to fuck another member.

Sex, sexuality, writing and reading about it, is apart of our lives, but it certainly isn't the dominant factor of who we are. We're folks who are comfortable in our skin and we like sex. Whether we're apart of a sexuality forum or a listserve for erotica writer, we're more than the common interest that brought us together.

I'll tell you what's ironic-- it's the normal folks who obssess, trip and are far more immature about sex and sexuality.

as one of the newer kids on the block i have to admit that i started reading things on the board for a little voyeristic titillation (hee, hee he said tit) but hung around and then joined because i i found an intelligent, caring community...a good bit of whinning and bitching but show me a group this size that doesn't...my opinion doesn't mean squat to most of you but you should all be proud of yourself when you join together to lend support to the young lady who was leaving the abusive relationship and moving back to texas...yeah, i like a sexy picture and some nasty dialog but i get that off the story pages and the pic pages...so keep on doing what you're doing 'cause you're doing it well....
