Why are people so nosy?

well if you dont ask you dont find out things, anyway people dont have to answer do you

There are two levels to it. The "what are you dringing" threads are just a "keeping in touch" mechanism, I think. The "justify your existence" challenges are just nasty attacking.

Why are there so many threads asking what we are reading, drinking, etc.

Why not? You don't have to answer. It's just tossed out there to anyone who feels like answering. And maybe you'll find someone with similar interests, or you'll find a new book to read or song to hear. The way I figure if you don't want to answer, don't.

If I were to create one of them, it would be because I was bored, and was taking part (or thinking of taking part) in the activity I was asking about.

I think it's funny how lovecraft and Sr71plt both agree that they don't like the argument threads, seeing as they have one named after them...

Oh, I didn't say I don't like the argument threads--other people's arguments, of course. Which is the nub and why the threads exist. They are entertaining. I particularly am amused by the admonishments of people not to argue who are just as prone to defending themselves when attacked as I am. It's a standard Internet game. If you defend yourself, you're arguing. And since people enjoy the threads, they don't bother to find out who's initiating the attacking and just tell them to shut the fuck up.

I don't think it's a matter of being nosey so much as it is a personal style of just saying hello. Some people get the social value of small talk, some people don't.

But I have noticed that you are always more than happy to stand on the sidelines and toss a little fuel on the fire.

The argument threads can be fun if they stay more towards the ball busting side and don't degenerate into some of the outright venom that is common over on the general board and occasionally shows up here.

Especially over in some of the Scouries threads where some of the members there have been feuding for years.

Some times i dont understand some of the threads but with these, they are easy and straight forward and let you tell everyone what you are drinking or thinking or what ever. What is easier especially after a long day

I think that you're right and also want to point out that the little box that we are all staring at right now is responsible for many not understanding actual small talk anymore.

Chat rooms, texting, face book, twitter. Many kids coming up today literally have no idea how to socialize.

The doldrums of summer? This is how low/slow we've fallen?

They have no life so they need to live through you.

We're all here. I think that supposition of no life is a given for all of us. :D

They're a non-threatening way for newbies to lose their virginity.
I thought that was what the General Board was for.

Well, raping is one way of losing your virginity.

Please learn the difference tween argument and quarrel.

I have to say...on some nights when I'm home and bored I know other people are home and bored, watching Lifetime, eating handfulls of popcorn, drinking scotch...or whatever. Oh wait, that's too much information :)

I'm lame, that's my answer. Plus when it comes to threads like the 'What are you listening to.' I'm jamming on that in particular mainly because I am a lover of all music and am always wanting to know what others are listening to.

Why the hell not. Like the words of a popular song, 'I was born with a curious mind'!

I smoke mine, usually hanging out of the corner of my mouth, instead of holding it upright and wasting it...
