In my area drug dealers prey upon middle school children to become addicted and to become dealers. They are absolute scum.

the dealer doesn't give a flying shit if the person they're selling to can't afford the goods and turns to crime to pay for the habit. a habit can grow into addiction, and addictions fuck up lives.

round my way, kids are often given drugs as initial freebies - using ''friends'' to pass a bit on; then the kid develops a taste for the product, wants more,and suddenly finds out not only have the freebs dried up but suddenly they owe money in all directions. money they don't have. then the pressure starts - find the money or do some deliveries. the kids start robbing from parents, sell things they own and things they don't, and everything spirals downwards.

meanwhile, the dealers - the big fish in the little ponds - enjoy all the flashy stuff the minnows can only ever aspire to.

I have a bigger problem with prohibition than actual drugs. I think drugs should be legal and any crime committed under the influence is the issue.

I can't even take most drugs, they either do nothing or make me sick.

Reasons?

Their product hasn't been legalized yet and so they often have to work outside the protections provided by courts and enforceable contracts. This can make their line of work violent and socially unattractive and the product supplied often suspect, just like booze during Prohibition. (Unless they're small operators in reasonably upscale neighborhoods dealing in limited quantities of something borderline-legal or increasingly-legal like marijuana, or mushrooms.)

Apparently a lot of people have turned to dealing over the Internet in order to avoid the whole business of having to fight for turf and market share in the streets. I wonder how that's going to work out long-term.

You don't know shit. I don't like drug dealers hooking 13 year olds so I must be a prescription drug abuser? How do you make a leap like that? I take no drugs not that it matters. I support legalization of marijuana even though I'm not a user. I will never support victimizing children which drug dealers do all the damn time for profit.

it's the ruthless targeting of the young and often dumb that causes them and their parents endless shit and heartache

i actually have no problem with adults of sound mind buying for purely recreational purposes; not easily mind-fucked, they've more self-control as a rule and statistically don't get so messed up as people whose brains aren't fully developed.

legitamise weed, regulate the strength, legislate on purity of product, put a purchase age-limit on it same as alcohol and tobacco, tax it, put money into rehab systems for those who get junked on it, and hit the shit out of illegal dealers. will the consumer still be exploited by the 'dealer'? of course, but as consumers we can have more of a say and adults who use responsibly don't need to feel like criminals skulking about just to buy a spliff.

the hard stuff? run the right advertising to educate and to make it so unappealing that demand falls like a stone through a bottomless bucket.

First off, I never seen a drug put anything in a 13 year old hand and make them take it. A drug dealer is your typical business man. I never saw a scientist be ridiculed for making prescription drugs. Never seen pharmacist being ridiculed for selling them. Why is that? When they actually make commercial and ads to advertise and promote the addictions. When your typical drug dealer just stand on a corner and give to people what they want. Drug dealers don't make the customers buy the drugs, the customers want to. People get addiction to technology, but yet it's still a profit for it, because it's what the people want.
