Why are Christians expected to be perfect by non christians?

Have you ever noticed in the media that whenever a christian does some wayward activity and get caught it is more of a hopelala that if a non-christian were to do the dame.

Why is the measurieng bar held up so hihg for christian by non-christians when the bar they{non-christian} comfortably lays on the ground?

Just curious, I noticed a few things in the local news tonight that really brough it out tonight, but its always been so, baker with prostitues, roberts with the embezzling, falwell with ill timed sppech, etc.

In my experiance Christians say they follow the book they read in church.... They stand up and say for example that 'women of the night' are tarts and then they get caught playing with them..... Nothing worse than double standards.

Every example you referred to were people who seem to delight in condeming others. Is it any wonder when they fall or commit a gaffe, that people point out their mistake?

Maybe people don't expect Christians to be perfect - maybe they are are tired of the self-righteous attitude many Christians have. Maybe they are tired of being told they are going to hell, or that they are degenerate, or inferior.

Yes, as a Christian I know that "Christians aren't perfect, only forgiven", but too often many act as if they are perfect, or at least superior. Such behavior is just human nature; one of the motivations for joining any group is to feel special, different, superior - and Christians are no exception.

I think it's because the bible says that the actions these men took were wrong. Lying, cheating, stealing are wrong. You don't have to claim Christianity to know this. "Most" people will agree that these actions are wrong, no matter their religion.

I personally think if Baker is unmarried and wants to sleep with prostitutes...more power to him. He accepts whatever consequences there might be to his health, it's really none of my business. I do take offense when someone who claims to love the same God I do lies, cheats, steals, or tries to push their own twisted interpretation of the bible on me or others. I think a faith in God can be very helpful in dark times. This sort of behavior only serves to push those it would help the most farther away. The term "hypocrite" comes to mind. That said, I also believe God will deal with their behavior later, I don't need to be judge and jury here on earth...that makes me no better then them. Don't you think?

What's forgotten OFTEN is that the premise behind Christianity is forgiveness. God and Jesus were perfect, they were without sin...I believe this. We are human...we sin and then we sin more. I am FAR, FAR from perfect, I do believe in God, I also believe I'm forgiven. I do my very best every day to do the right thing. That's enough for me. I'll have to answer for my actions when my time here is through.

Nope - I don't pay attention to anything about those people; they have very little to do with me.

Are you asking how I like you? If so, then I don't know you so I neither like or dislike you. It does seem to me that your posts here are a bit glib and ill-informed, but that is your prerogative and just my opinion.
