Why are Americans such prudes?

Seriously. It's 2:35 AM, and all I can find on cable television (standard, I don't subscribe to HBO or anything... maybe that's my problem) is reruns of "Boy Meets World" and "The Cosby Show." Well, that and the home shopping network and junk such as that. Why is there no softcore porn? The closest I can get is the "Girls Gone Wild" infomercial on Comedy Central.

And frankly, I'd rather masterbait to the Dave Chappelle Show.

LOL, you have my sympathy, though it seems no matter where you are those late hours seem to be the ones they put all the dull and boring stuff on....sort of like a dump time. Maybe they think it will help the insomniacs to sleep.http://www.smilies4you.de/content/muede/a26.gif

Catalina :rose:

Master has been up in the wee small hours quite often and as we don't subscribe to pay TV there is often nothing on but infomercials, crappy old American sitcoms or evangelists.

Still doesn't help Him sleep though

Killi - we watched a couple of episodes of Dave Chappelle, we must be either too old or not up with American comedy but we found him totally incomprehensible

Americans are prudes because . . . well, it's a long story. I blame the Pilgrims. ;)

Too bad you don't get Cinemax (a/k/a Skin-a-max). Lots of cheesy soft-core porn overnight most nights - it's not kinky and it doesn't show penetration or cum shots, but most of the actors/actresses are hot and it's usually enough to get the desperate folks through a lonely night . . . Me, I prefer my collection of movies from AdultDVDEmpire.com. :)

Catalina - Oi, I only wish I were simply an insomniac... I work nights, both jobs, so at this point I'm simply nocturnal. Oh well, that's what Lit is for! Easy to check while I'm working on real estate junk.

Gingermango - I blame the pilgrims, too! America would be alot more interesting if our founding fathers (and mothers) had been kinky sex addicts, evicted from Europe for their perversions. Oh hell yeah!

Bandit - I don't know what to say... Except that the first few times I saw the show, I didn't find it all that funny either. I think Dave is something (or someone) who grows on you. I like to masterbait to the Daily Show sometimes, because I kind of have a crush on John Stewart, and his biting wit is a huge turn-on. :) (Yup, I'm serious.)

Well, if you want the good stuff, you have to take an extra step to get there. Paying or otherwise. We're not all prudes, we just don't expect to cram this stuff down the throats of teens and kids flipping the channels.

Video stores have a back room and there are pay channels and blocks on stuff mostly 'cause moms don't want to explain to the five year old what that man is doing to that lady. They particularly don't want their son to get the idea that this is what we do in public. Or to the dog when mommy isn't looking.

Buzzkill. :(

Well, having sex makes kids, so you gotta figure that someone who has one, knows what's in the back room already and has other things to worry about at times :)

I was wondering . . . so America was settled by Puritans, and that's our problem, right? Then is Australia like way more relaxed? Cause it was settled by convicts.

Well, it depends on which Americans and which Australians, really.

Australians don't look relaxed to every American, they can look completely psycho.

Jesus, man, leave the freakin' snake alone. It's just lying there getting some sun.

Not every American believes what they see on Animal Planet or the Olympics.

As long as other nations do us the same favor, that we don't all live in Disneyland and drive an SUV, that occasionally we do have thoughts separate from the media, that'd be cool.

Come to Canada and you won’t have that problem.

Yes the US is a screwed up place that allows people to have guns and show violence but if a nipple is exposed all hell breaks loose. But hey people should be ashamed of their bodies and more right.

Here in Canada we got nudity on TV shows around ten or so, sometimes earlier depending on the show or movie, I’ve even seen nudity during the day in some cases. We don’t shy away from it, you’d be amazed at the difference. One of TV stations called Showcase tends to have a lot of sex on it, in fact it’s almost nothing but shows that has nudity, fucking and more.

You got all sorts of dirty tales, stories, programs and so much more, if you want something to masturbate too you’d have no problem finding it there. Men, fucking women, women fucking women, threesomes, bondage, kink, fetishes, all of that and so much more. We have shows that examine sexuality and even an old woman on the radio and TV that gives sexual advice itself, she could be your grandmother but she knows everything and helps many.

BTW all that....it's on basic cable.

That old sex advice lady sometimes freaks me out a little. Like the time she was talking about milking the prostate.

LOL Killi! When I saw the title I though "OMG the GB is leaking in to the Cafe again" then I saw that it was you. We've got plenty of porn and links to free sites of stuff we like. Some of it's really cheesey, but it works. I've given up on TV for all of my entertainment needs...we don't even have local channels...that's right folks NO broadcast TV. We have a DVD player and a screen, so we watch alot of movies. The first 3 months was hard..then it got easy. I dont miss TV anymore.

on a side note: Netzach, you're AV is awsome!

yeah...canada can keep the old ladies giving sex advice.

i think it depends where you live in the USA. some areas are prudish...others not. i live in NYC....it's certainly not prudish here....from bondage clubs to peep shows...we have it all. now in Iowa it's certainly different.

yeah...the USA isn't Scotland or Canada....it's diverse....more than 100 people live here.......ha ha.

SBS here in Australia has foreign films and programs like Oz and Queer as Folk where you can see all the nudity you want, and it's free to air with no advertisements - great for me coming from NZ where the free to air channels all have ads every 8-10 minutes

I had pay tv for a short time while in NZ and though I had the choice of about 25 channels there was often nothing worth watching!

There are prudes in every country I guess, I come from a rural area in NZ and I've learnt more about sex in the last 3 or so years than I knew in my life before :D Now I'm living in a big city and to me things are a lot more open here. I'm out of the closet to our friends as a bi woman and a sub, something I'd never admit to where I used to live  Either our friends are very open minded or they know what a DV8 Master is......;)

Prudishness isn't the only factor, though it is a big one, there's also money in 2 ways.

Broadcasters like lowest common denominator shows because a bigger audience attracts more advertisements for higher prices.

Also broadcaters have figured out they can make much more money selling pay-per-view porn than by putting commercials in it. Sometimes they manage to charge as much for a single viewing as it would cost to buy the same DVD online and have it shipped. I worked for a major direct-to-home provider for a few years and they made more money off pay-per-view (not just porn, I don't know what the breakdown was) than they did off the monthly subscription fees. Pay-per-view also helps alleviate their culpability if a minor sees it, but to them, that's just a fringe benefit of the extra $$$.

Sue Johanson was actually at my university yesterday doing a talk for the students here about sex. Naturally I went and saw it (second year in a row seeing it now).
