Why am I getting spam mail?

As the title says. I created my email address expressly for the purpose of this website. I'm pretty sure I never wrote it down anywhere it could be read, and as far as I know there is no way to see it in my profile.

Yet since I posted my first stories and started replying to private feedback I have started receiving spam. Are you telling me someone I replied to added my email address to a spam list? That's really strange.

Anyone else getting spam when they shouldn't?

That has to be it. Have you perhaps reveived mail from one of the people you've replied to as part of a multiple-CCd mail? If that's the case, then anyone on that list could be the culprit, not necessarily the person you actually wrote.

Or they could have an email harvester on their computer.

There are several ways someone could have accidently sent out your email addy. It boils down to replying to those private feedbacks, though. As soon as anyone has your email address, it's out in the wild for the most part.

Unless your immediate friends and family are the only ones who have your email, and they work as hard as you do to safeguard it, every email will get spam eventually. Spam may as well be added to "Death" and "Taxes" - it's just as inevitable.

I got a 'feedback' from a sales site. All they want you to do is reply then they have a known address for sale.

Difficult to discover unless you look at the full headers on mails which is a lot of work for replying to what you hope are proper readers.

Look at the privacy terms for your email provider, too. If it's, for example, Yahoo!, they have a whole slew of stuff you have to opt OUT of in order for your email address not to be sold to marketers.

OMG! I posted my first story back in December and got a few nice comments and e-mails. I posted my second just this week, got a lot of comments, and replied to some with my e-mail address.

All of a sudden i'm in spam land! For some reason they think i need to have a larger penis, lol! If it wouldn't create even more spam, I'd e-mail 'em back and tell them I need to find one first before I tell his owner that he needs to be bigger.

Yeah, it's spam-flood time. Despite the catchers that I have on my account, I got twenty pieces of spam this morning-- something I'm not used to anymore!

The spammers have some new process, and it'll take the ISP's a little while to figure out how to filter it, I'm afraid.

Meanwhile, I can't decide-- do I need a larger penis, or do I merely need to last longer? Should I become a trainee in psychology, or should I learn medical transcription at home? So many choices!

There's probably some kind of bot going through the new lit submissions and sending fake feedback for email adresses.

Just in the last two days I've had this happen to me too, but in BOTH my email for here and the one I only give out to family and friends. I've never gotten spam in either one before. I have a seperate email for responding to things and purchasing. Something is up.

Someone definitely obtained e-mail addresses straight from literotica. I too have an address just used for lit, and it started receiving a ton of spam very recently. Its all getting CAUGHT as spam so its not going into my inbox. Its definitely not an address that was guessed with dictionary harvesting though - someone got a hold of the addresses.

Is it a yahoo address though? Because Literotica does not have one of my two yahoo addresses and they are both getting spammed liberally all of a sudden.

Nope - its actually a spamgourmet address. When you setup an account there, you actually create a unique address for each site. Something like:
litforum.20.yourusername@spamgourmet.net

Every time I sign up for a site I use a different e-mail address.

Then again, part of my job is spam filtering so I'm kind of paranoid when it comes to e-mail addresses

Just an update to say I now easily get 40 spam mails a day, and the only use I make of the email address is to reply to the private feedback I receive.

I mysteriously started getting spam on the 20th too, and it happens to be the one I use for Lit. Seems a bit of a coincidence to me. Has Lit sold our email addresses or something?
