As the mainstream pop culture continues to sink to ever lower depths of depravity, with the few lingering taboos now being obliterated, is it possible an alternative entertainment culture could emerge for those who don't like the content in mainstream culture or are simply looking for something different for a change?

I'm not convinced that the time this will happen is at hand yet, but this article says it may be:

The secular media has taken television, radio and movies to new depths in the use of sex, inappropriate story lines, foul language, violence, and the moral relativism they have been selling. It's not the American media that provided wholesome entertainment for most of the twentieth century. Just last week, the Supreme Court decided against the Federal Communications Commission (F.C.C.) for fines imposed on FOX for allowing foul language and ABC for partial nudity. However, that case was not decided on "freedom of speech" grounds, and there is still hope that an F.C.C. in the hands of a more conservative administration can regain control of the media.

Alternatively, it appears, finally, there are groups of investors, film makers, and actors, all with a Christian foundation, who are plunging in to fill a void, meet a consumer demand, and at the same time spread the Good Word.

A new movie, THE GENESIS CODE addresses one of the most common objections to those who do not know the Bible or Christianity, or reject it out right. How can the Bible be anything but fantasy if it asserts that God made all that there is in six days? THE GENESIS CODE also takes one step towards addressing the seemingly irreconciliable differences between science and Christianity on a wide range of issues.

The movie features young new faces not seen by me...though I am no critic, and certainly don't see more then a couple movies a year in the theatre. And, I don't watch modern tv because there is nothing there for me. I boycott shows with foul language, excessive violence, or morally neutral and offensive themes. So it probably isn't surprising these new actors seemed new to me!

The problem I have with this is, however, it is pushing Christianity and "Biblical world views."

There is nothing wrong with that, but what society needs is a secular alternative that is religiously neutral to attract viewers. There are already Christian programming, which seeks to propagandize Christianity. How is that any different from the mainstream propagandizing permisiveness, militant secularism, anti-traditionalism, etc? Replacing one propaganda with another is not the solution.

Where is the quality secular wholesome entertainment for adults and families (not just kiddie shows or religious themes)??? If you make it and market it and its halfway decent quality there will be some sort of market for it. Why doesn't it exist? That's why I have to believe there is a conspiracy. I know people don't like to hear that, but its the only explanation that makes sense.

There would be money in such a niche but it doesn't even exist. Something doesn't add up.

How many book burnings have you been to?

If you say "none", you're full of shit.

Movie releases follow an annual cycle. Summer is usually the cultural low point.

Unfortunately, James Cameron figured this out a few years ago.

Gah.

Cameron is a brilliant technical filmmaker. There probably isn't anyone alive or dead who compares to him. His stories are awful. Almost George Lucas awful.
But give him a couple hundred million and he'll make something that everyone on the planet will pay to see just because they've never seen it before.
He does have some truly great ones though. Aliens, T1 and T2. Masterpieces.

Unfortunately, James Cameron figured this out a few years ago.

Gah.

I hope he films Battle Angel someday. He keeps putting it off, but says they'll have to pry the rights from his cold, dead hands.

A teenage female robot who battles other robots to help save mankind might bring him back to his Terminator days...

Yeah, the Bible is just a font of purity...did any of these yahoos ever read the bible? More importantly, what is someone doing posting about wholesome entertainment on a site whose prime focus is sex...sex stories, discussions about sex, products?

Then, too, we have irony, where Fox tv is known for being raunchy as hell, run by the people who put out Fox News (also known as Faux News) that goes around trumpeting the GOP party line and talks about decadent media, filthmongers from Hollywood and so forth.....

I think there always has been wholesome entertainment, you just have to know where to look. Turner Classic Movies has movies from 'the golden age' that by today's standards are wholesome (back then, the ancestors of the religious right were calling Hollywood "California Soddom" because they *gasp* showed a women's leg or after the Hay's code was lifted, showed a married man and woman in the same bed *oh my god*. PBS runs masterpiece theater and has performing arts not featuring Lady GaGa. Don't want to hear filthy music? Put in a classical station, even if broadcasting Opera (whose plots are quite, ahem, interesting) you can't understand what they are saying. Watch the Hallmark channel, they have non nasty stuff, too.

Problem with the Christian stuff is it is so self serving and preachy and the production values are so bad (when your hottest star is Kirk Cameron, ya know you are in trouble), the stories have lackluster plots, horrible acting and the like, that people who otherwise might like a nice yarn get turned off. Problem with Christian entertainment is they are so busy hitting you over the head with the sledgehammer any message they might have is lost.
