Who wants a small pox vaccine? Who needs it? Who should decide?

In addition to the article link below, I have heard a few things concerning the small pox vaccine.

http://content.health.msn.com/content/article/1689.52868

1) There is allegedly enough vaccine to innoculate all americans.

2) Those at high risk of having a negative reaction or contracting the disease from the vaccine are those with weakened immune systems.

3) One idea that has been tossed around is to vaccinate an infected area and widen the safety net by vaccinating within a certain radius of the infected person/area.

My thought?

Give the people the information and let us make our own damn choice whether or not we want the vaccine.

I certainly don't want to be the one case of small pox in an area where they have to initiate the safety net.

And maybe, I just have bad information. Any thoughts?

I've been vaccinated - even though I live in what is classes to be a 'small pox free' country.
There was an outbreak (one case!) in a town I lived in and we all had the 'option' of having vaccinations.

Having seen most Americans voting record, do you really think they can make an informed choice?

Well, there you have it!

You statement in mind as I say they are able to determine who is going to make the decisions for our country, who determines when we got to war, and on a more individualized basis....do they sign a DNR order or not? Do they carry a baby or abort? Hell, people who can't read can drive?

But, we are not being allowed to decide whether or not we get a vaccine which will be harmless to 70 percent of americans.

I think for good reason.

Doctors have to fight parents who insist that thier children have anti-biotics for illnesses best worked out thus reducing the effectiveness of antibiotics in the long run.

Now if smallpox is being weaponized, then overuse of vaccine allows the virus to develop resistant strains...

Good point, Syn!

OH well, guess this thread is over.

Now, that makes sense :)

Why over?

We have yet to cover the over-reaction and over-use of Cipro (sp?)...

It is a worthy debate. But one which is best not argued against a backdrop of fear.

Not me. I don't even let the Dentist use pain killer (on me...).
