I am. I moved a bunch of threads that are more discussion/advice/arguing/chat-oriented to the Hangout so that the focus on the main forum is on the poem-writing threads. I'm sure no one will mind one click to post in a discussion/chat thread if people who mainly want to write poetry can find the writing and challenge threads more easily. This is the poetry forum, after all, and we want everyone to have access to the threads they enjoy. :)

kinda threw me for a minute - thought i was having 'a moment' when i couldn't see the other threads over in the F&D. i don't care where they are, so long as they 'are' but found some interest in actual discussions taking place. arguments, not so much, but i'm all for a bit of lively debate when it's poetry-related.

Always wondered what this child forum was for and why even have it since it was so under utilized from creation.
It matches the description now.

child? *raises eyebrow* i'd say 'sub' but that means we'd have to type Poetry Feedback & Discussion/poets' hangout

Sorry I should have posted a thread explaining but I had a kid with a crisis (well, *she* thought it was a crisis) and I got involved in stuff offline.

And what would Tathagata do? You do remember him? I do, very lovingly, I really enjoyed that thread, when I came back, I checked the link, good, it is gone.

Am I to understand that PF&D is now writing and challenge threads only. What prompted that decision?
And your interview series qualified how?
Sorry, this looks like an exclusionary tactic to me.

I can very easily pull up one thread, where yours truly, xxxx the censored one, tried to discuss "poetry" and one of friends wanted to discuss soap and assholes.

You may also want to look at a recent post, where someone else, while singing the party line indulges in a cheap piece of demagoguery.

I never said there were not arguments here in the past. There were plenty and lots of different users have been involved over the years. I don't have anything to do with archiving threads though. The only changes I've made since the new forum rules came out have been 1) to remove current posts or threads where people were fighting (as opposed to discussing) and calling each other names and 2) to move a bunch of discussion threads over here. I haven't touched any old threads and often can't find stuff myself.

We are trying to maintain a balance between discussion threads in the Hangout and writing/challenge threads on the main forum. I realize we can't get it 100 percent, but we are aiming for more of a balance. Some people come mainly to write poems and some more to discuss. What is wrong with trying to keep some balance between the forums? The people who come here primarily to write (assuming they do again--all this tension is making a lot of people uncomfortable) can easily access the threads they want. Those who want to do other stuff can click once. It's just a matter of trying to be fair to the most people.

As far as you being "censored," you have only censored yourself. You have never been banned from this site and can post here any time. Every absence of yours has been of your own making, presumably because things here aren't exactly the way you want them. You are not the only one who matters here. Everyone does. I hope you choose to post again and not take things so personally or see things through such an angry filter. You have a lot to give and it seems sad, to me, to make a war out of nothing. That's just my take on it.

And if you recall, I finished up the interview series before we redid the forum rules or moved anything. There was no plot. I'm human, just like you.

wow. i was about to answer in Tsotha's Goading and Baiting thread, here in the hangout, but it's disappeared. He made some very valid points that needed airing, specifically linking to posts illustrating his patience with Senna, followed by his refusal to sit back and be treated like some fool by the man who is becoming more infamous for his rudeness than applauded for his knowledge.

Yes. The problem was that he was directly quoting from a private message, which is against the guidelines. That is why the thread was taken down. If people want to have a general discussion about points he made, they should but Lit guidelines (not just PF&D guidelines) prohibit posting quotes from private messages.

Yes. Someone, who I will not name, apparently finds it amusing to not only accuse me without evidence, but to then get my message removed over quoting unidentifiable fragments (thank you, you-know-who). Worry not, I'll find a way to rewrite your half-a-dozen words and get my defense up, again.

Ah, i see. It's a shame the quotes couldn't have just been edited out, though. That must have taken a little time putting together, with the links and stuff.

I think this stuff will need airing, if we don't want to see cats and dogs raining from the skies, milk curdled in the pan and no more nutello on the shelves. :rose:

Direct quotes are what they are and the guidelines are clear on posting content from a pm. If you want to paraphrase because you want to defend yourself or make a statement, go right ahead.

I respect your right to see things the way you want to see them. I also have that right. If you feel you have been treated unjustly you should deal with it as you best see fit. I would if it were me.

And remember Tsotha I never named anyone when I said the apparently infamous "goading and baiting." For all you know, I could have been referring to Senna or even myself. You are making some assumptions.

We have some very opinionated people here. We always have. I try not to get involved in peoples' personal issues unless a rule is broken or people get really angry with each other and start throwing names around or browbeating other users. Mostly people can (and should) take care of their own issues. If you feel someone is disrespectful, do not interact with them. Mostly the ignore feature does work although you are right, if you want to ignore me, you need to do so mentally. I'm pretty unobtrusive if you try.

Well yeah but apparently the links were part of the quoted material...

I am all for airing. You know I just want us to get along and write poems and talk about poetry and whatever. Of course I understand that people can (and do) find many ways to insult each other. Some are very good at doing it subtly. That does create gray areas and I feel I try to navigate through them as fairly as I can. Like I said before I am only human, just someone else sitting in front of a computer. I may make mistakes and when I realize that, I try to rectify it if I can. But if someone here does not like someone else, the best thing really is to not interact with them--to continue to attempt to do so when it is clear there is a clash gets you nowhere good imo.

Is that how it's going to be? Because then I'm totally not talking about Senna on my 3-1, or you in my 3-2.

I expect better from you.

Isn't it nice to have a backup of everything you write, precisely because you trust people to just make your message vanish? Yep, it sure is. You can go check my links, which are NOT part of the quoted material (the whole 87 words of quoted, non-personal and unidentifiable material).

Ok, what exactly did I quote now? Or are you just going to delete any thread I post?

Well, Butters, no need of proof for the rudeness, I think, as for the knowledge, I have yet to see it. :)

The rules are fine on that point. I just wish there could be some additional ones debiting people with minus points when they make statements that they cannot substantiate by referral to original sources. That's how it would be done in a more serious debate, in an academic class for example. Nothing wrong with that. Now, lack of knowledge and assumption of grandness is allowed to pass as authority and profundity.
Oh, I know, it's only a public forum, but I do mean to challenge dilettantism wherever I meet it.
It is becoming fun more and more. :)

This is beyond absurd. I have edited the message to remove the quotes, so I'm not breaking rule #4. And "threatening" other users? That makes absolutely no sense.

seems to me that SJ needs introducing to this one.

as writers, there are always going to be 'flash-points'; - intelligent, creative, artistic, sometimes belicose people - fill a room with them and watch the pretty fireworks. rules are there to make sure no-one gets seriously injured, but those rules have to apply across the board, be applied with a light hand, but - above all - and be SEEN to be handled FAIRLY.

some of you guys have been here way longer than i have, and i'd hope none here would enjoy seeing this forum ripped apart into fighting factions that harms creativity; no more would i see too constrictive an atmosphere stifle new writing, new growth.

personally, i don't mind a little clever and imaginative insulting - after all, as poets we should be able to come up with some interesting stuff. i'd sooner a more open atmosphere where we can express our views, and have those views challenged and debated, than feel we have to tread so carefully so as not to offend those whose sensibilities are honed to detect (wrongly) a raised eyebrow as an attack.
