At one time, I was interested in rope bondage - from a rigger's perspective. With my husband's consent, I started attending local munches and events to learn more about it. And I found that most people were more than happy to share their knowledge with me.
If you're not already familiar with members of your local scene, I'd suggest making discreet inquiries as to who has a good reputation for knowing their stuff. Then make an effort to get to know them and see if they'd be willing to share some pointers with you. There's always the chance that they might decline, but IMX I didn't find that to be true. I've never been to one of these "munches", but there is a community of such folk in a town a little south of me, so I believe it's time I go and introduce myself a bit. Who knows what might come of it. At least I'd get to know some free-spirits if nothing else.
