Who says the economy isn't booming under Obama?

Legal US pot sales soar to $5.4B in 2015: Report

Legal U.S. pot sales soared to $5.4 billion for 2015, up 17.4 percent from $4.6 billion in 2014, according to data released Monday by the ArcView Group, which tracks the cannabis markets.

Maybe we can consume our way to prosperity? Or if not...who cares, dude.

It's called capitalism. And consumption of consumer goods is how it is driven. You cannot rely on exports to fuel an economy. You must have production and consumption of goods internally if you are not to be completely at the whim of external markets pressures.

Businesses always looking to diversify and find that tiny niche market they can serve for an extra point something of a percentage point. in sales hence profits.

Booze is a huge tax generator. Is why we have hard time getting rid of cigarettes. No real will.

The price of illegal pot is marked up 50% due to risk of doing business. Therefore legal should be able to be taxed 50% with no price hike to consumers.

Oh, I get it now. The secret to a robust economy is lots of tax revenue...

No, the secret to lots of tax revenue is a robust economy. Pot is a billions of dollar industry a year. Illegal pot is bigger than GM. A very robust industry with huge profits waiting to be taxed with little actual cost to consumer.

Huge taxes don't cost the consumer anything? Huh? So, you're a tax & spender.

Not on pot it won't. Like I said 50% of price is purely to pay the risk factor. If no risk factor, tax it and consumer sees no price change. Yes it would be nice to see 50% drop in price of legal dope over illegal. Maybe enough places legalize it we will get manufacturer price wars.

It's a sin tax. Tax it and spend it without fear of voter reprisal. No one loses votes if price of cigarettes goes up. Or booze. Gas maybe!

A sin tax? Selling pot to people so sick from chemotherapy that they are vomiting blood is considered recreational/sin usage? Slap that outrageous tax rate on Mifeprex and see what kind of voter reaction you get. Maybe I can get my doc to write me a script for Makers....(note to self).

LMFAO!!! Ask how well that worked for WA/CO ....they came up off those "save the world with a uber tax on weed!" bullshit in a heartbeat.

Know why? Cali weed was cheaper ;)

You have lost your fucking mind LOL

Maybe in 1988....welcome to 2016! It's more open than ever even in the deep red south....markets are more competitive than ever and the shit gets moved across the country in bulk, keeps prices down.

It's a sin tax. Tax it and spend it without fear of voter reprisal.

Fuck your sin tax...there's no fucking reason the oldest medicine on earth should have a god damn sin tax on it. Except for crony greedy fuckin' liburhulz and tight assed freedom hating (R)ethuglicans looking for a reason to lock people up because they love freedumb so much.

No one loses

The cannabis industry loses....dick. When the industry loses everyone loses.

Even if you wanted to crush farmers and dispensary owners with taxation you CAN'T do it until you've taken the market away from the black market. You and every other fucking idiot out there who tries is going to get burned just like WA/CO. Just because you put up a state licence doesn't mean they own the market. And until the feds allow the banks to take weed money? Ohhh cash bidnizz good luck getting those insane asshole taxes you want LOL It will just come pouring in!! LMFAO!!!

These sort of discussions where they cross into economics are something else. No market is free, and no person participating in a market does a perfect job of handling his end of the transaction. Someone always leaves a little on the table somewhere.

But markets also make sense. Regulated, unregulated, black market, taxed, duty free. Everyone at least tries to get the most for the least.

The grower wants as much money for the least product that his customers will accept. He will reject customers that squeeze him harder than he feels is worth his time, expense and risk.

The buyer wants as much product in the best quality attainable for the least amount of money.

You hear numbers thrown around in these discussion about how there are these mystery margins in this enterprise or that one. If that were true, somebody would be exploiting it.

If McDonalds could get away with raising the price of a big mac a nickle, it would. It does where it can, it retreats when it has to. There aren't any businesses just sitting on "excess profits" that can be taxed away or mandated be given to workers. If there were, someone would come in and undercut them and steal mark share. Because economics.

This 50% "markup" for risk is non-existant. If I grew weed and only sold to people I knew from childhood, there is zero risk. How would someone that wants my customers compete if he arbitrarily marked his up for "risk?"

With those kind of margins everyone would be growing.

But I digress.

By the way, I only vaguely know about the problems legit places having using banks, accepting cards, etc.

How do they pay taxes? Are local and state treasurers equipped to handle large cash payments of taxes? Do they have to go get a bunch of money orders from the quick-e mart?

If they get a bunch of money orders from the quick-e mart and it ads up to more than $10,000 are they guilty of money laundering whilst paying their taxes?

Biggest point is you can't go tax bully on a bunch of people (who own the industry) after they have been giving the DEA and every other LE agency under the sun the finger for 60 years. Shit just doesn't work.

If the state regulates fairly and appropriately I think most will capitulate. I hope that's how it all goes down I'd like to have a licence, but if not it's all good as long as others get it because what's good for farmers is good for me.

Treat it like anti-matter AIDS from outer space and throw some over the top asshole tax on it? LOL there is that finger again.....

And nothing has really changed.

Correlation tends to equal causation in some cases,

it tends to not equal causation in others.

High income places get away with charging high taxes (for a while) simply because there are people with high incomes who for some reason cannot (immediately) flee to a lower taxation area, which any sane person would do.

If not in person by relocating themselves, then using perfect legal devices such as incorporation, LLCs and the like.

True that.

Saying ollie ollie in free to successful black-marketeers is probably not gonna work if you cut into their profit margins with taxes that they already didnt pay because they didnt exist.

Even the ones that do go legit are (obviously, like any sane person) going to under-report, especially the sales to customers they already supply.

To an extent.....nobody is paying no 50 fuckin' bucks for 1g of 10% THC shake because save the world tax. Everyone will go to the same dealer they always have and get 3.5g of top shelf for the same price and the 8 licenced dispensary owners with their new 8 million dollar licence and 600/oz stale weed because who pays that? Your licence owners will get stuck with a bunch of weed they suddenly sitting on fucked, just like they did in CO and WA.

You can tax....but you can't try to strangle the industry to death day 1 and expect it to go well.

CA's legalization isn't destroying it's medical...yet. So yea...fuck buying.

Depends...a lot of them WILL be more than willing to pay taxes and go legit. In fact I be a bunch over report for YEARS.

Here is why. You can only spend so much cash. Can't go put 120,000 bucks in 20's on a Nissan salesman desk for a GTR or F-Pimp50 in 20 dollar bills.

Stoner rich...best of money can buy in EVERYTHING, as long as it doesn't cost more than a few grand. Lots of people who have been up here doing this a very long time would love to pay taxes so they can spend their money.

But won't happen till the feds cooperate and give the banks the ok to take weed money.

Since you explained it simply and clearly, maybe Ms Mann will finally understand a concept.

Which part is bullshit?

I really guess it isn't after all, the numbers in 2009 reflect the dive everything took when The Clown won the election...take the DOW it was at 14,000 before he was elected then nosedived almost 7,000 points after he was elected.

It's amazing what you can do with numbers...this chart just shows how inept the Clown is.

And the increase in the DOW actually had nothing to do with the Clown.

You enjoy not telling the truth, don't you?

The "dive" took place before the election, and it absolutely did not dive 7000 points after Obama was elected.

There's a clown around, but it's not Obama.

The increase & decrease with the DOW has very little to do with the President. It's not surprising you don't know that.
The funny part is you explained it without even knowing.
