Not necessarily the best luxury cars, but best overall.

I can just judge on my xp. I own a Toyota. I've beat the shit out of it and it's still running, even if it is on it's last two legs.

So for going the long haul, and surviving I picked Japan. I think that's where they come from?

Best overall for safety would have to be Sweden. I voted for the USA, as most are made here now, and the variety is huge.

;)

Most of the Consumer's Reports best buys are Hondas, Toyotas, and Mazdas from Japan

What do you mean by "best"? Pretty murky wording. Germany is the easy answer though. BMW and Mercedes set the tone for the auto industry as a whole. They innovate and are imitated ad nauseum.

Looking at it as an overall rating I too would have to say Japan, though I do think that the best 'better' cars come out of Germany.

Again if you look at the type of car you're driving in, that can change too. Like 4WD and trucks...well IMHO USA has it made there.

Luxury cars....germany without a doubt.

SUV's and Standard cars....Japan.

you forgot Canada.

I spent 3 years makeing those damn things just to go thought college... we make damn fine vehicles.

I have to go with Japan. Had I truck once that I put 130,000 miles on and only had to replace tires and batteries and one headlight.

This from the people who said Stroh's made the best American lager available in the grocery store.

One has to keep in mind with CR that price is usually a HUGE factor in anything they say or comment on. They drive and test cars like your grandmamma would. Car and Driver or Road and Track are better measures of real world performance, luxury, and durability. Although at times they seem to be in the pocket of the manufacturers.

It took me a month, but I agree with Mr. Marxist:D

It's a toss up, but I think Japan has the edge over Sweden (toyota vs. volvo and saab). America is a respectable third (and don't we own the swedish and german car companies now, anyway?)

Speaking from experience ...

Gotta be German - Mercedes Benz, Porsche, BMW
You can expect to get 300,000 miles and still have it run like new. One of the few cars that you don't lose resale value on, as well.

For a truck, I would say Toyota is the way to go ... the body looks like a rust bucket after a few years; but; you can't kill the damn things.

The word "best" means different things to different people. For me, it means "value". Value is a combination of price, dependability, function, style and resale.

I buy American.

It happens.....pretty soon you'll be checking out babes with big round asses and eating sweet potato pie.

Prince, I'll put anything made by BMW and Mercedes and Audi / Volkswagen / Porsche against Toyota, Honda, or Nissan (and all their luxury lines).

I know folks that work at the dealership and corporate levels of a couple Japanese companies and they freely admit to waiting for the next big thing from Germany every year.

It's not really a contest.

Who makes the best cars in the world?

There is only one answer -- Dale Earnhardt Inc.

:p

You might be a redneck if someone asks you who makes the best cars in the world and you blurt out.......

Earnhardt sold out to Jeff Gordon? hehehe

No, Jeff Gordon couldn't begin to buy anything. He's MUCH to busy to be bothered. Just ask IROC.

and knowing that it is 40 days 14 hours and 11 minutes until the start of the Daytona 500 confirms that fact.

That's almost as racist as saying only a black would think that a BMW is worth the money.

I got no complaints against big asses

I've even voted for some for president.

;)

Sweet potatoe pie is far, far away.
