Oh, yes! He wrote, "There once was a man from Nantucket."

Stellar stuff. Just stellar.

France has neither winter nor summer nor morals--apart from these drawbacks it is a fine country.
- Mark Twain

drawing illustrating a P. Louys' poem

The texte of the poem is in French:

Oui j'ai conduit mon valseur
Dans les cabinets d'aisance
Pour qu'il enculât ma soeur
Sur le siège en ma présence.

Ma soeur ayant fait caca
pour se graisset l'ouverture,
Son amoureux l'attaqua
Dès qu'elle eut pris la posture

Le trou résista longtemps
Ce qui fut très rédicule,
Car ma soeur a dix huit ans:
C'est l'age où l'on vous encule

Mais enfin le bout du vit,
et tout le reste suivit.

It's so good of you to come back in and post French poetry in the GB. Just completely the right home for this. Would be amazing if there was actually a forum for poetry here.

There's a few literate people here though.

I can read it. I can understand it without going to Google translate:

"Ma soeur ayant fait caca"

No one knows Louys in the present tense, and most are a bit young to have known him at all.

all i know is bilitis is the only david hamilton movie you can watch without feeling like a perverted piece of shit.

because patti d'arbanville is hot in it and not a teenager.

it's still creepy though.

just not as creepy as david hamilton's other shit.

and i think i have a mp3 of some old recording of the song of bilitis. i might not though. it's really kinda silly.

Huge Pierre Louys fan here. In fact, on one trip to Paris I made sure to find and have a dream on his grave, then left a pencil behind. I also found one of the places he lived, as well as the likely location of "A New Pleasure" etc. Such a brilliant author of erotica.

If anyone's interested, I recently posted a story ("Ascent of the Mountain of Hedone") which is at least loosely inspired by my love for his work: https://www.literotica.com/s/ascent-of-the-mountain-of-hedone

You went to his grave!!! That is soooo cool. I love "Aphrodite" - I haven't read it in a while. Now I'm going to have to go and find it, that's such a classic.

I must say that am totally shocked that this post hasn't already far surpassed 1,000 responses in the 4 months it's been up here. Shame on you, people.

Yes! Aphrodite is an absolute classic. Louys really turned me on to erotica. I somehow got my hands on a copy of Byblis in my mid-teens, and secretly devoured everything I could after that.
