VH1 had the top 100 dance songs on today and most were from the 70s, so it led me to this thread

I know I will miss some big groups, but I will try not to...

I am sticking with groups that primarily rose to fame during the 70s, although most played much longer

queen definitely, they created the greatest song for sporting events (we will rock you or we are the champions take your pick) plus they were singing about fat bottomed girls long before the rappers of today.

I'm sorry. I can't vote. You didn't list Led Zeppelin.

doh! I knew I would miss someone big, sorry my dear

I have to go with a tie between Queen and Kiss, they were both big influences in my childhood, which is probably why I am warped, but Freddie Mercury was the greatest and you couldn't help but get sucked in by Kiss' makeup/on stage theatrics.

The best listed band is the Who, followed closely by Bruce and the E Streeters. Led Zeppelin and the Clash and Parliament/Funkadelic (to name three off the top of my head) were superior to every other group in the poll.

And you didn't list the two '70s groups who had more hits than any other: The Eagles and Chicago. Not that I would have voted for them or anything, but a hell of a lot of people bought their albums.

you are right, it just goes to show you that back then there were tons of decent to excellent groups

today we get lip synching teeny boppers and synchronized dancers and ganster rap, but very little actual music

You forgot Yes as well. They were and are outstanding musicians, but then again everybody on your list is. My personal favorite would have to be the big bad blimp, Led Zeppelin. I know it may sound like I'm always singing the praises of Yes, but I often feel that they've been neglected and never get their proper due.

I thought of them, and I did think of Chicago as well, but I felt the other bands were bigger during the 70s. Yes did have a few great albums.

YES was awesome!

Should have had an "Other" category. My favorite 70s band was one called Wishbone Ash.

Oh God,

This is so difficut to choose some of my favorites are

Meatloaf
Pink Floyd
Queen ( from the list)

And in no particular order do we remember:
Glen Campbell, John Denver, Dolly Parton, Simon and Garfunkle, The Village People,Dr Hook, The Barch Boys, Chicago, Rolling SAtones, Moody Blues, Neil Diamond, David Cassidy, Shaun Cassidy, The Bee Gees, Olivia Newton John, ZZ Tops, REO Speedwagon, Bob eager, Black Sabath, Forigner, Geoge Harrison, John Lennon, Earth Wind and Fire, Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, Silver Convention, Sister Sledge, Pointer Sisters, Rose Royce,Air Supply,Bonnie Tyler, Charlie rich, Jonny Cash AC/DC and the list goes on......

The 70s what a great period ( Did i mention ABBA, Baycity Rollers ?)

I'll throw out a few other names: Fleetwood Mac and Aerosmith did their best work in the '70s. So did AC/DC. Pink Floyd's two best albums (in my opinion) were '70s albums. Van Halen never topped their debut, which came out in 1978. Cheap Trick was great and mostly unappreciated. And then there's everyone associated with New York punk/postpunk: Blondie, The Ramones, Talking Heads.

It's probably just nostalgia on my part, but it does seem like a better time...

Up until the time I was twelve I listened to nothing but KISS.

Then I discovered Run-DMC.

gotta love Tommy, but all those bands are really good. I wish I could vote more that once.

I've heard of them but never heard anythig by them. I picked Paul Mccartney and Wings for my poll choice, though. I'm a huge fan of his, especially his bass playing. I've even met him once.

Wishbone Ash vaguely sounds familiar, did they have any hits?

Out of those choices it would have to be Steve Miller Band.

Don't have one favourite but Procol Harum and Moody Blues is a couple of them....aaaaaaa...and can't forget Arlo Guthrie.

My pick

I'm surprized no one has mentioned Styx yet. They would have got my vote in 1980-1, but I'll give my nod to The Who nowadays

way to go. the who rocks. too bad they are down to two member. what if the remaining beatles and the reamaing who joined forces. think about it the right people are there, Ringo to replace moon, and so on.

It's funny I had a tough time choosing. I love so many different types of music and each name listed touched a different part of my life.

I love The Who, Paul McCartney, Simon & well, Simon anyway...

I went through a disco period too. In Deep...brings back tons of memories.

Steve Miller Band was big during my senior year...everyone was into them and Jethro Tull...and George Thoroughgood.

I can't really pick. I would have to say all of the above.
