I've noticed lots of new poets joining Literotica over the last few months. Has anyone really caught your eye?
One new poet that's caught mine has been TheRainMan He not only writes really great poetry but he also gives really great (and useful) feedback as well

What in particular caught your eye?
I have heard some good things about the poet, but haven't had an opportunity to read him. Which poem would you recommend I read and why?

He can definitely write and appears to understand what he's writing and why. I will add him to my list when he strikes out and experiments as he searches for his own voice. When he is brave enough to walk that fine line between success and abject failure. At the moment when I read him I get the impression he is well within his comfort zone and could write what he does all day without too much effort. His work is pleasant and enjoyable but I don't find it excites me intellectually or on an intuitive level. Though I don't see why he shouldn't, he definitely has what it takes, it just depends on how he uses what he has going for him.

A new poet to Literotica but definately not a new poet, that is for sure.

:)

4Degrees

has been around a while, but I found everything he does is fresh and interesting. Some of the poems seem odd to me at times, but that just seems to add to it all.

I echo that about 4degrees. I like his play on words and the resulting cadence.

Though the holiday season's keeping the pastry chef too busy to write at the moment, I'm looking forward to cymry's return, hopefully in January. Some of her writes I have to re-read to fully appreciate her word play.

New is relative. I've been here since 2002, so some of the people I think of as "new" ain't so new to some of you.

So let's call them "newer," and of those I would say that I am most often knocked out by the work of Liar, who I think has a great gift for poetry.

Liar and Neonurotic do wonderful work with illustrated poems, too, even if they are erm old.

Boo Merengue is so good, better than she ever seems to think. And flyguy--he's newer to me and he keeps getting better (well, as do so many here imo).

I agree that this Rain Man person is very impressive. I look forward to seeing his poems here. He has a distinctive voice that really speaks to me.

Of the "newest" poets, I think wildsweetone, 4degrees, and bogusbrig are wonderful--all very different styles and all so good. I've just started reading Minervous and I agree with the others who've mentioned her. I also have read a few things by Cymry, whom I never read before, and she's wonderful--great wordplay and I get a strong spiritual sense from her poems. I'm going back to read lots more of her. I've enjoyed reading cward2 and lobomao as well.

And I'm very happy to see DeepAsleep and Maria writing here again.

Of course my favorite poet here is eagleyez, but you knew that. :)

this is a new version of the ...

I hate this kind of thing because there is always someone left out that really belongs. My interpretation of New meant um like a month old. You know, not being able to hold it's head up by itself and still sleeping with its knees tucked under in fetal position.
oh god I think I want another baby help me

Flyguy knows Curiouswife is not anna.
good lord where do you get these things?

anna wishes she were curiouswife as she can use all of the help she can get keeping up around here.

Anna has always wanted a wife, but she cannot convince her husband of the same.

darn it.

I thought the same thing! I will go find it and give it a bump, put a link here....Anna and I have recommended a lot of new poets in that thread and in the New Poems Reviews threads as well.

hmmmm I was wrong, I checked that one, and it is more of another new poems reviews thread.... wasn't there one up where people recommended new poets? hmm.. maybe that one turned into it later....

Everybody belongs. We could have an "old poets" thread and a "been around for a while but not too long poets" thread and sooner or later everyone would be here or there because we each have our individual tastes and it's all good, right? :)

Here is a quote that I love from a book I was reading earlier today.

All this business of keeping score, and knowing who's good and who isn't--fuck it, man. You know what I mean. It's automatic, you know. All those that are no good, why are you thinking about them? Even if they're famous. Don't worry. If they're really no good, they'll disappear after a while. And even if they didn't, so what? I mean, why are you going to be mad at them? Because they're taking money out of your pocket? That's not why you do it. If you want to get some money in your pocket, get some. If you have a talent for it, you'll get some. If you don't, you got a problem. But just solve it some other way. Ask Allen [Ginsberg] for some. Only not this week.

Ted Berrigan, excerpted from a lecture at the Jack Kerouac Poetry Workshop, On the Level Every Day: Selected Talks on Poetry and the Art of Living

That quote made me laugh out loud. I can think of around 30 threads here where it would apply. :D

That is a good quote--I just am kind of absent minded, and would rather highlight people as I see them instead of trying to go back and remember everyone.

I just know if I ever won an award I would be one of those stupid people trying to remember everyone to thank, afraid I would leave someone out, but I do not think there is any such danger of that.

Unless I make a big break in some chick flick. With Bette Middler. She can carry the tune. I can be her poor friend who can't sing and gets sick.

wait
I think they already did that one

I didn't list everyone I wanted to--if I had there would be many more poets in my post. You'd be on there and others, too. I didn't want anyone to think I was playing favorites with the clique or the oval or whatever shape it is supposed to be these days.

And awards are overrated unless they involve cash, yknow?

Darnit I know there's a great quote about awards and poetry in that Berrigan book, too, but I'm too lazy to go look for it. I do love Ted Berrigan though. His poetry makes me laugh--cry sometimes, too--but mainly he's very very funny.

That movie was Beaches? Is that the one? My favorite chick flick is Little Women.

Ok, I'm done hijacking. I'm sorry, cward.

Sweet girl, I did not think that! I do not consider myself a new poet anyway, I feel old as the hills. So old I cannot even climb the hills I am as old as.

omg I love little women.

"I could have been a great many things, Sir."

sigh.

I always wanted to be Jo, and I know you did to :)
Professor Behr...sigh

(where is my batting eyelash smilie when I need one?)

I think I read that book 12 times and no exaggeration.

Maybe I should start a thread instead of hijacking this one any further as well.

:)

Interesting note:

In the ritual suicide practice of Seppuku, in Japan, a Kaishaku is a position generally held by a friend of the person killing themself in which after the suicidal person guts themselves, the kaishaku steps in and cuts off their head with a sword.

It's considered an honor and a pain in the ass, because if you messed up the cut, it could be very bad for your reputation, and it was a hard honor to refuse.

*shrug*

Yeah, I wanted to be Jo. Actually, I wouldn't mind it now. Laying on the setee in the attic, reading and eating apples. Sounds heavenly. :D

Dustystar. I like Dustystar.
