Paris Hilton is gorgeous, albeit way too skinny. At first I thought that she was a utter moron. However, the way she manipulated every media outlet in America into turning her name into a household word just before her TV show debuted to huge ratings makes me think her a genius. She basically tricked every television network and radio station into doing several weeks of intense advance promotion for her show on Fox. That's savy.

Her friend on the show actually skipped a mandatory court appearance (for heroin posession, no less) to film the show for Fox. Of course, the network lawyers sorted it all out.

And the sex tape thing -- talk about great publicity for the show. Look for Fox to incorporate that into the next sweeps month promotion for all their reality shows.

Ok, this is really a question to ask an english gal or bloke, because having spent 2 years in the UK, I went from never ever having heard of paris and her sister nikki, to bloody well seeing their photo in the paper every second day (every day was posh and becks, especially as I was in manchester for a while).

And yeah, if my family owned the well-known hilton chain of hotels throughout the world, I'm sure I could get tv shows as well. And you ain't nobody in show business unless you have one of those videos floating around.

Paris Hilton had nothing to do with the publicity, it was all the Fox 'Network', which is not so much a TV network as it is a giant, self-referential propaganda machine. Fox was the first network to start reporting on its own execrable TV shows as if they were news, and has gone way overboard in trying to create buzz for the crap they put on the air ('The Simpsons' excepted). This is the network that treats the war in Iraq as entertainment and treats entertainment as news. And we just wallow in the swill they put out.

The saying is that since America has no royalty, we have to create celebrities. At one time you had to have talent to be a celebrity, now all you need is money. Paris Hilton is just the latest in a line of no-talents to be shoved down our throats. People apparently get off on the idea of a rich, pampered, blonde shoving her fist into a cow's vagina, and Fox is happy to oblige. That's entertainment, folks.

I'm a male, so the posh dresses, hairdos, and jewelry are lost on me. My opinion is solely based on her face, age, and sexual aura. As I stated before, IMO, she is very pretty albeit too skinny.

It is probably truth that her wealth aids in making her more presentable, but the same could be said of any woman not living in abject proverty.

When I mentioned publicity, I was refering solely to the "accidental" release of her sextape, which was covered by EVERY network in America, not just Fox. I've seen no factual evidence that indicates that Fox had anything to do with that. Maybe they did, but i haven't seen the proof.

Under forcible restraint, I was compelled to watch an episode of "The Simple Life." It took nearly ten minutes before I was able to gnaw off my paw and escape.

What seems most reprehensible about this is not only the waste, but the celebration of the waste.

Both these persons were born to great riches, with the possibility of affording whatever intellectual pursuit they might entertain. Yet, they are socially unpresentable – and still, they manage to foist their way into the forefront of society.

In the past, famous families saw to it that their cuckoo's eggs hatched in solitude.

Hmm. That reminds me of someone else.

I watched an episode of "The Simple Life" a couple of nights ago. It is the first "reality" television show that I've seen in over 10 years, the last being "The Real World" circa 1992. Now that I think of it, I did watch the PBS miniseries "Manor House," which was originally called "The Edwardian County House." I suppose PBS thought that Americans would be too stupid to know what Edwardian refers to.

"The Simple Life" was mildly entertaining as a one time affair. I couldn't imagine watching it on an on-going basis. Aside from Paris' beauty, the only attraction for me is to wonder if the people of that town in Arkansas knew they were being made fun of. It's rare and kind of refreshing to see ultra-rich people really letting on how they feel about the working class. Usually people of Paris' , old money, class refrain from such public displays of contempt for those less well off. But, considering who is the President and the general oligarchic era that we live in, I shouldn't be surprised.
