i am trying estevie i just dont know how to fit in the right way.

Try responding to other threads instead of just trying to start your own. Also, try exploring the other sections here. I like the "How to..." board myself.

About the title of your thread, I have been accused of being both a bitch and a witch--here and IRL.

Was that a joke estevie i am so bad at these things right now but i am trying to bounce back i am a nice guy just try me

Hello Blond i was trying to say hi to you yesterday and my computer shut down i am learning about not starting too many threads i get swamped when i do.

Yes, there are a lot of witches here. No, I am not one of them.

Try looking at the witches and warlocks as being just like you, only another religion. Instead of Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, etc., they are witches. Just a different set of beliefs and a different way of looking at the world. Not necessarily better, not necessarily worse. Just different.

If you were headed towards asking the witches about Halloween, save yourself while you can. :p I think Halloween doesn't have a lot to do with pagans. And all those ugly green skin witches in the commercial world of Halloween probably don't endear the holiday to the real witches, either.

Am I close, people?

Okay, I'll bite

I'm a witch.
Yes, Halloween has a lot to do with my religious practices. It's a high holy day, much like Easter for the Christian set is a high holy day. Halloween is the festival of harvest, the reaping which comes before the death and rebirth of winter/spring.

No, I've never met a single witch (of any variety) who in any way resembled the popular Halloween image. That's a nice concoction that's taken several hundred years to refine. I consider the green skinned warty witch akin to the "yes, massa" blackface performers, or the "hook nose Jew" cartoons of the 20s-40s. It's a derogatory image, reflecting suspicion and mistrust of an "outsider" group.

It's annoying. But, I'm not a child. I don't exactly burst into tears about it.

LOL. I have proof, contrary to that.
What proof do you have that I'm not really a bitch? :p
Thanks for that, nasty, but I think if you really knew me you'd relize my statement is pretty accurate- lol. That's ok though- I'm used to being assertive and being called a bitch for it. :)

I was a witch in a past life and burned......
My interests are high in the subject in this life as well, only non practicing. Though I have been told by some that I am a natural witch. I wish to learn more......

Some good authors:
Raymond Buckland's work on ritual practices and different pagan, Wiccan, and other Craft traditions is very thorough and interesting.

Gerina Dunwich does great stuff on spellcrafting, potions, herbology, etc.

Scott Cunningham did many books on the Garderian tradition and solitary practitioners.

The journal New Moon Rising is a good resource.
If you can find old copies of the 70s mag Man, Myth and Magic, they had lots of good resources also.

Llewellan Press publishes a host of books, mags, zines, etc. on the subject.

Hey, I'm a literature type. I give books and authors, what can I say?

As far as the "natural witch" angle, so am I, as are my mother and sister. The three of us together are pretty strong. But, study can be a big help in refining and directing those natural energies toward more productive and spiritually healthy ends.

Blessed be.

Samhain...

Happy Sowyn to you all~

This is one of the 8 Sabbats..this one considered the Witches’ New Year's Eve.

In the Northern Hemisphere it's October 31st..the Southern Hemispere..it is April 31st.

A time of reflection, remembering those who have gone before us.

It's the night when the barriers between the worlds of life and death are very thin, allowing our ancestors to walk among us and bestow their blessings upon is.

The nights begin to lengthen and giving us more time with the moon and stars.

"Listen, my witches, to the words of the Horned One,
Drink, dance and be merry in the presence of
the Old Gods and the spirits of our departed kin."
