The Art of War, by the great chinese general

Whos name I can't remeber how to spell

What did you think of it...

Did you come from it thinking of anything inpartcular...

Did it make you think of any other books along those lines..

The Art of War is by Sun Tzu. I read it as part of my undergraduate business studies. Sun Tzu wrote it as a field guide to wars, but it really is applicable to modern business practices - know your own strengths and weaknesses, know the strengths and weaknesses of your enemy/competitor. Reminds me of a cross between a chess match and Machiavelli, with more emphasis on the strategy bit.

Perhaps the fact that it was required reading tainted by enthusiam for it, but it is still a good book. And given that it was written over two thousand years ago, I should add that I'm impressed with its staying power.

Whether you will like it will depend on what you are trying to get out of it - students of Chinese history find it very useful (Mao based his strategy on this book), and modern western business magnates also subscribe to the same philosophies. If you're not one of the above, then you may be somewhat less enthused. Why? Are you thinking of reading it for pleasure or work?

No I have read it... All 5 versions and the 3 main translations for it... I am just curious on if it is still being used by teachers or by peole as a form of understanding how politics, war and deciption work...

There was other books based around his style of strategy.. and as you said many people have based business around it... I for one have based my base around some concepts inside his book along with ideas taken from the game Go and Chess...

aka The Book of Five Rings....

read it but no one to discuss it with so i don't think i Really understood it...

Also read The Art of War. It´s rather interesting because you can use some of the advice given for ANY sort of contest, I for example, used it to improve my poker skills.

Uhoh....

i may have made a mistake...

A Book of Five Rings was written by Miyamoto Musashi
a samurai from 16th cent. Japan...
