How do you percieve yourself?

How do you think other people in real life and online perceive you? Do you think it is the same as the way you view yourself?

And last but not least, how do these perceptions effect your writing if they do at all?

(EL is feeling curious today)

EL,

I probably shouldn't even be responding to this thread because I started therapy today just to find out the answers for myself.

Up until today, I was quite convinced I was a bloke.

Today at least five different people on AH have accused me of being a "girly" or simply mistaken me for female.

I'm not quite sure how people perceive of me here. I'm English living in Portugal. They attemp to rip me off less than they used and I had great fun with the various builders this week having used a local firm of Architects to obtain building quotes, you should have the builders faces when they realised I was English and that they could have added 30% to their quotations. Saved the Architects fees ten times over.

My writing has gone all pink and fluffy.

This thread title always makes me think of a Spice Girl's Song.

sorry...

I'll gvie a better reply later.:)

But my 'occupation' is listed as "barefoot neo-hippy feminist pagan smut-writer"

if that gives you any idea:)

too many smilies  oh well.

I try not to percieve myself. it sounds all colors of wrong and slightly worse than masturbation.

I dont know really, how others percieve me... i think most people think im a dumb blonde and thats not too far afield.

no, when i write, i use another persona. i am not myself, you see...

I forgot "bohemian heathan" but I'm not sure how to fit it into the above phrase.

elizabeth... :rose:

Neon...Well you seem perfectly manly to me

S&P oh gees thanks for that...I thought i'd erased all memory of anything spice girlbut now I have that songin my head!

vella -thanks :) (and I see you as sexy and sassy but definitely not dumb!)

I will add my own perceptions here in a while, just doing the voyeur thing right now*L*

I don't... I just am.

Depends if their heterosexual uninvolved females or not.

Online people probably get a more real view of who I REALLY am since I'm more comfortable with distance between me and other people. Very LARGE private space guy.

And last but not least, how do these perceptions effect your writing if they do at all?

All of my male leads are some version of me... writing is my multi-verse.

Sincerely,
ElSol

Awww, you know I'm only pulling on you. I like to tease, and I only save my serious teasing for those I care about.

Now stop being such a big girl's blouse and buck yourself up.

Yes. Just like the AV. :D

I think it actually works the other way around for me as well. That is, I perceive myself differently when I am writing different characters. It's that Wildean "multiplication of personalities" thing.

Understandably, people sometimes make inaccurate assumptions about me online. But the writing/self interface is really why I prefer not to have a gender here. I would rather people not come to the text with that shaping their minds.

I know that! You're a rock of sanity in these tempestuous seas

Hopefully I'm perceived as exactly that which I try to extend. Mystery.

Ok, curmudgeonly.

Definitely has to do with your turquoise AV!
No one was mistaking you when you had the fishing AV up there.

When I first saw the title of this thread, I thought you were mad at someone, maybe a troll. For just a sec I thought you stopped being nice. Turned out to be another great "nice" EL thread. :rose:

Awww *blushes* I don't really do angry. I think people would fall off their chairs if I ever posted an annoyed thread here *L*

great and nice eh? good compliments for a lowly thread, thank you :rose:

How I perceive myself, is definitely not how the wonderful people on here perceive me. I've been told that often enough.

I just don't know which one to believe.......my real head or my complimented head.

I think........my signature says it all.........mature lady with a dirty mind

Seriously........my stories are affected by the way I view life.....naive, innocent, gentle and loving........with a touch of spice thrown in now and then.

As for everyone else..........they are entitled to their perceptions and I'm quite happy for them to indulge their imagination.

Only I know the truth. ;)

How other people see me is up to them. Like others, I have found that anonymous has very definite views about me.

I think I can be a pompous bore on line because my wife isn't here to kick me in the shins as she does in RL.

  • How do you percieve yourself?

It all depends on the day ;)

  • How do you think other people in real life and online perceive you? Do you think it is the same as the way you view yourself?

It still depends on the day, but the two perceptions are usually light years apart.

  • And last but not least, how do these perceptions effect your writing if they do at all?

Who I am and how I see myself and my place in this world effect my writing quite a bit. How others see me or, to be more accurate, how I perceive others perceive me :)D) has some effect on certain things that I write, but not much effect on the whole.

That's a lot of words for not really answering any of the questions, ain't it?

How do you percieve yourself?

Bit awkward, bit of a geek, but in a charming sort of way... soemtimes too smart for my own good, other times absolutely clueless.

How do you think other people in real life and online perceive you?
Probably about the same way with a few differences ;)

Do you think it is the same as the way you view yourself?

I'm sure people see me as more clever than I really am... maybe not, though. I'm really a pretty deep person and if my head is in the clouds it's because I'm busy working through something I've seen or heard and processing it into something I can use.

And last but not least, how do these perceptions effect your writing if they do at all?

I wouldn't say they really do. I write from the inside, not from perceptions of myself, no matter who they are from. I would say writing is the only thing that really is NOT effected by other peoples' perceptions of me. I'm very anxious in real life and I don't like to be embarrassed... most of the things I write about are very personal and that's why I don't show anyone I know in "real life" any of my stories. Except OhMissScarlett that is but she knows the real me better than anyone and I'm never afriad of embarrassment around her, we've been friends too long. I am slowly learning to be braver... thanks to some very special people I've met through Lit and the AH.

How do I perceive myself?

I don't think I "perceive" myself. Perception to me always had to do with the senses; it's for someone who's on the outside. I'd like to say that I know myself although it is easier said than done.

How do others perceive me?
This is an interesting question that I ponder all the time. An idea that I read many moons ago always sticks to my mind. If you listen to your own voice on a tape, it is different (it is perceived) than what you know it to be. Since you don't recognize the real "you", it is quite natural that others will perceive you differently of who you think you are.

Personally, I am perceived to be distant and a bit unapprochable. This couldn't be more removed from the truth but people tend to think that because of my physique and also because I am reserved in front of strangers.

Online, I've got the good fortune of meeting people whose perception of me is really close to who I think I am.

How do you percieve yourself? As a happily reformed monster.

How do you think other people in real life and online perceive you? In real life I think most people see me as the monster I used to be. Online I think people see me as nicer than I really am.

Do you think it is the same as the way you view yourself? They're right in most ways, but no one, other than my gf, really knows me.

And last but not least, how do these perceptions effect your writing if they do at all? I don't think they affect my writing at all.
