Who Cares If McConnell was bugged???

So they found the bug?

Beat me to it. There's no evidence of a bug and Mother Jones say their source didn't use one. It's basically a massive deflection operation to try and switch the story from the scumbaggery comments.

Both Federal and Kentucky state law require that at least one person being recorded give consent to the recording. One would think that a law and order, rule of law guy like Vette would support an investigation as to whether the law was followed or not.

I doubt that he is an enlarged, seeping organ of pain and pleasure through which, despite the odds, fragile life passes through.
Mitch McConnell's high school photo.

Kind of interesting since McConnell said he wasn't concerned about Judd's credibility as a candidate in the first place. Maybe if legislators behaved better they wouldn't have to deal with these issues. With technology the way it is now, discussing how to destroy an opponent by smearing them on mental health issues isn't too smart.

*watches the collective of stupid rush in in their lawyers defense.* :D:D

Far more damaging is owning up to it by claiming that it's a genuine recording.

There's a more obvious explanation for the release of the tape: whoever made it wanted to brag about how Judd really wanted to run, but she chose not to because she wasn't going to be able to stand up to what the McConnell people were going to throw at her. It's also a message to anyone else who might be thinking about making the race--that this is going to happen to them too.

McConnell gets to have it both ways, because he is making threats while simultaneously striking that favorite conservative pose, Victim of the Liberal Media.

True.

Interesting points.

It think he comes out of this looking weaker than his own chin.

And that ain't easy.

I'd log this away as a maybe. In its favor, the timing is such that it has no bearing on the race; if one were afraid of a McConnell win, one might wait until closer to the election. Against: his team looks like a bunch of out of touch, giggling women-haters, and this doesn't help him with his base (who are already out of touch giggling women-haters) or the middle. More to the point, it undoes the work the GOOP is doing to rebrand the party as inclusive and forward-looking.

A third possibility, though, is that McConnell's team knew someone had recorded the meeting and therefore preemptively released its own recording, to soften the blow in advance and keep the "gotcha" factor away from the election. This is an age-old political strategy, and he is nothing if not an age-old politician.

Bugged? No
Recorded by a cell phone? Most likely

By a Democrat operative? Probably not
By a McConnell operative, to cover his/her ass in case some shit goes wrong? Probably

If it was by a McConnell staffer, that makes it legal. Sorry Vette and others.

Even worse, McConnell is demanding the FBI investigate this and find out who bugged his meeting. And what then? Actually arrest/indict such person, under these circumstances? "Controversial" does not even begin to cover it; the majority will sympathize with the suspect. Very awkward for the FBI.

Even more awkward for McConnell -- he should be wanting this whole thing just to blow over and be forgotten; and a whole new news-story with a previously-unreported person's name in it, and a high-profile trial coming up, only prolongs the matter's presence in the public mind. He has played right into the Streisand Effect.

The only likely conclusion will be the recording was made with the full knowledge of all persons present in the room, so no law was violated there. A further conclusion will be the tape was leaked by a member of McConnell's staff. There maybe a civil case against this person for violating an employment contract, but no criminal charge.

The cries of "bugging" are just the staff trying to obscure their tracks. Eventually the name will be revealed.

McConnells staff hired a pro company to snoop the site afterwards and they found "nothing" but you don't hear that on Faux News or from the OP.

The comment about his wife was on twitter from some blogger. Not from the fucking white house.

The nixonian bugging scandal is laughable and embarrassing. It was a cell phone and a staffer with an axe to grind. This was three months ago folks.

The irony of asking for an FBI investigation is nothing more than trying to fuck Mother Jones and David Korn. Which is hypocrisy at it's finest.

McConnels worst nightmare is if the FBI did investigate but I am sure he had that part of his ass covered before he made the comment and there will be NO investigations.

He's totally afraid of the left and on the right he has Rand Paul all over his ass.
