There are a lot of reasons why an American would still be there.
They were told in July to get out.
I doubt they have had an opportunity to keep track of everyone. Critics seem to act like we should've known exactly how many were there and where they were, but it's just not that simple.
I think there probably were less than 50 that we knew where they were and couldn't get them to the airport.

I saw some TikToc or whatever about the woman "trapped" there after going there to get married as the government was falling and we were withdrawing our troops. To her I say - you made your bed now lie in it.
You have to be a real dim bulb to be going to Afghanistan and I feel no compulsion to have any extraordinary measures to get her or any of them out, nor do I place any blame on the US for these dopes that made their choices.

My surmise on who is still there with U.S. documentation are people embedded in Afghani family situations with no way to document their loved ones to leave the country. It's a tough, no-win decision in these cases. It's not the U.S. government's fault that it exists, however, or that they made the choice not to leave in the last five months between when they were told they needed to leave and when that was shut down.
It's an example of board Trumpette rottenness, though, that they will take and twist simply everything to indict the Biden adminisitration and to try to hide the corruption and incompetence of the Trump administration.

I would hazard a guess that Americans still in Afghanistan were 1) thinking they could get out of the country even if the government fell or 2) thinking the government would stand a lot longer than it did. They knew the withdrawal was coming. They gambled. They lost. It's called personal responsibility. The decision to stay is all on them. Had the donlald won a second term and carried through with the withdrawal (which he would have) and the same thing happened those who support him would have been screaming the same thing "Personal responsibility!" It must take a lot of practice to talk out both sides of your mouth.

What administration declared and negotiated the start of a withdrawal and signaled capitulation by not including the current Afghan government in the negotiations? What administration released 5,000 Taliban fighters to return to the fight? What administration blocked a visa program that pushed the attempt of Afghan allies to evacuate to too late in many cases? What administration did precious little to actually plan and conduct a coherent and measured withdrawal?
Answer: the Trump administration and there's not a damn thing you can do about reality, Rightguard, beyond continuing to try to shovel dirt over Biden and to lie as much as you always do.
