White shirts - larger guys?

Nothing wrong with it. Perhaps what your mother was saying is that black and darker colours are slimming, giving the illusion of being smaller. (That's why larger women tend to wear a lot of black.) Buy the shirt and don't worry about what your mother says.

Odd query, I know. But there's a shirt on eBay that's official merch of my favourite band - but it's white. I'm a larger guy, but recently lost quite a bit of weight, and I wear an XL now - which i'm very proud of. However, I do remember a lot from my youth about how my mother would tell me that I wouldn't look good in white clothing, how it would show off my fat, the darker the better. The shirt I'm looking at is in white. So what do you all think? Dpes a larger dude in a white shirt make you cringe, or is there nothing wrong with it in your book? Thanks for your input.

Buy the shirt and have it professionally laundered and starched. It will look far better if you do. Additionally, it will make your upper body look bigger. If you are wearing it with a dark suit or sport coat, you will find that it tends to slim your waste and make your chest look bigger. Having it professionally cleaned and starched makes it look far sharper.

Band shirts really aren't the kind you have professionally cleaned and starched...in fact the more beat up and worn in they look, the better. I say buy it...and who's the band?

I'm a guy and I just figure that as long as the shirt isn't really tight on me, its fine. I don't think there are a whole lot of people who are going to care what kind of t-shirt someone wears as long as it looks halfway presentable in public. C'mon dude, we're men. We're not supposed to care about this sort of thing. :D

I know the deal with shrinking down through sizes. Just be careful that you really do look good wearing an XL, not just that you can fit it onto your bod. If a white T is at all tight (and band shirts are notorious for being small for their size...voice of experience) it will look terrible on you. Black is more forgiving in this respect, the shadows of curves where there shouldn't be curves are less noticeable. White will show everything.

Get the shirt, dude. You want it, so you should buy yourself a present. Even if you never wear it, you should get it, because it sounds like something that means something to you. As for what mom thinks of it, who cares now? Some of my best clothes, the ones that get compliments, are exactly the fashions my mom hated and always said looked bad on me. Mom doesn't know everything (although you don't have to rub it in by telling her that).

Buy the shirt. A shirt is a shirt and as long as it fits that's all that matters. Infact, you'll probably look better in that shirt that you would in others because you'll be wearing the shirt of a band you like so you'll forget about the color once you put it on and be more confident in it because it's of something you enjoy then if you were wearing a shirt baised on something your mother told you years ago. I'm not the smallest person around (by far) and I wear white sometimes (it would be more, but my complection isn't great with white). The only thing I would make sure of before wearing it out is that it really fit and it isn't see-thru, if it fits but you can see through it, just wear an undershirt.

Long story short... ^_^ Buy it with confidence and wear it often!

So did you get it yet?

get your shirt dude.
Mom's don't know everything.
Contrary to their beleif.
Some very good advice previously posted.

Oh gawd, if I were to heed everthing my mother has said over the years, I'd end up in an asylum.

Yes, darker colours are slimming, but I think it has to do with more "form fitting" clothes. I'm not sure it would apply to mens T-shirts, to be honest. :)

Well, thankyou for all your advice. I went ahead and bought the shirt. However, eBay, ignoring my request to use my default address, sent it to where I lived last year. So, I went and asked them at the old house, and the post office, if they knew where my shirt was. And no-one did.

It was a really rare shirt of my favourite band.

Not happy. :(

You can file an "item not received" claim through EBay or PayPal if you used it. I have done that once in the past, and though I'd rather have had what I bought and paid for, at least I did get my money back. Sorry, though.

Yeah, I'd rather have the shirt. But I didn't know you could do that; I'll try it. Thanks!
