Trump may tap his emergency powers without reopening the government, a move some allies say could 'screw' Democrats.

But Trump’s allies say the president is reluctant to hand Democrats a “win” by reopening the government after he’s invoked emergency powers. They claim that in such a scenario, Trump’s political opponents would avoid making a single concession and potentially score a major victory if the administration were to lose in federal courts as many legal experts predict.

“He could say, ‘Look, I’m going to get what I want and then I’m still going to screw you,’” a former White House official told POLITICO.

“It’s making Democrats feel pain instead of declaring a national emergency, opening the government up, and making it so they don’t have to give anything,” the former official added.

How is this okay?

How is holding hundreds of thousands of families hostage with their pay okay? Delaying tax refunds? Parks continued unprotected, unserviced. Garbage not picked up. Payments for rent assistance, food assistance.

This is a petty petty man.

At some point the Republicans are going to see their lives going down the tubes and they'll wake up, put bills through that override his vetos, and he'll sit and fume until he's indicted and/or impeached/removed and thrown in the federal slammer.

Let's get real here.

The fact that he'd even say it, that the statement would even be released is beyond the pale.

It is the height of irresponsibility. He's no leader. He's a selfish narcissist that cares more for his scorekeeping and childish games than he does leading this nation.

Disgusting.

And some idiot Trumpers are going to be cheering this on as if it's some massive black eye to democrats. Party over country with a dollop of petty spite. Way to govern, pubs.

U.S. Constitution, Article 1, Section 7......

Downside to being dependent upon the GAWD state to take care of you....

Funny thing is the left wants these clowns to have way more control and power.

We're talking about basic public services no rational person would think of abolishing.

Maybe, but they will be taking an lb of Pelosi's and the (D)'z flesh if they do.

Considering you are so far left you likely consider having a state inspector stop by daily and wipe your ass for you is an 'Essential Basic Human Right' that really doesn't mean anything.

Predicted.

It's only logical that those who are most dependent on federal government will be those who suffer most from any loss of that dependency. Smartest path is to be as independent of federal government as humanly possible.

And no one who has ever ascribed to that position has ever fallen on hard times and needed help.

It's like they don't realize basic public services are necessary things. It's utterly astonishing.

Do they think they pave their own roads? Collect and dispose of their own garbage? Ensure (or at least try to, heh) their safety when flying? Go out and maintain public spaces? Build and maintain their own access to water and power?

These things are part of civilized society. And while not all of them are affected by the shut down they are still part of the the socialist aspects of our society and economy. To not understand this defies reason.

It's like they live on another freakin' planet.

I can obviously only speak as far as my own life experience goes, but I've never known a single person who hasn't fallen on hard times to some degree, or has not needed help at some time in their life. Your point?

Keep cryin' sister!!!

Civil services =/= socialist aspects of our society or economy.

It's like they live on another freakin' planet.

This from the woman who doesn't understand the difference between socialism and civil services.

Many Americans very far to my right would agree with what I said entirely.

People are always talking about shrinking government, but balk whenever anything specific is proposed, because, really, our government does no more and no less than most people want it to.

See? He's actually enjoying the fact that this is genuinely upsetting to people.

He enjoys the fact that people aren't going to get paid -- these people are genuinly upset.

What this callous ass fails to realize is that the most I'll be affected personally is a potential delay in my refund - being I doubt I'll file right away, eh probably not. Well that is if Trumpykins can figure out how to put his job above his ego.

He thinks this is funny shit.

Dude you are one sick puppy. Seek help. You truly do need to get some assistance.

That you are not upset that your president is acting like this and you instead find it funny that people are upset... you're not well.

How many roads have you paved to your house lately? What don't you think Trump will take hostage? How funny will it be when there are people that lose their homes because of this? Will you enjoy that too?

ETA - I should have quoted your post before the edit you bloviating heartless asshole.

Your first reaction was your usual gaggle of crying and angry yelling liberal memes with the utter joy that all this pain may cause.

You have no legs to stand on. You're nothing.

More wild claims from KO.

No...different areas in different areas.

Which we should be able to do by state but the states are mostly neutered because everyone has to go super control freak lunatic in DC.

Many people work for the federal government, directly or indirectly, and there is no reason why they shouldn't.

That, private charities being notoriously inadequate, it is better that the federal government should be ready and able to help them out in such times than that it shouldn't.

The point for an actual free society and economy, obviously, is to keep those socialist aspects as minimal as possible, because, naturally, the more socialism (rule by the state over the individual), the less individual freedom (from that state rule).

You evidently prefer America's socialist society and economy today, in which federal government regulates/control virtually every aspect of every American's life. So, it's totally understandable you'll get more and more upset the more your socialist government shuts down. If I was to any degree as naturally socialist as you, I might feel a bit of empathy for your misery, but since I'm not, I just don't.

There's no way you possibly believe what you just said is true.

Just another troll, then.

We have more wealthyfare than social services.

What I prefer is to keep basic services. Like public park spaces available for enjoyment. Safe flights. Garbage services. Paid families. That you somehow equate this with some stupid philosophical grand argument against socialism... people may lose their homes because of a temper tantrum.

Put this into some perspective.
