My bookmarks -- in Mozilla -- just vanished. The folder shows as (Empty)

Help?

did you copy them from another browser earlier? Maybe they are still in your IE favorties folder?

That happened to me in Netscape. Just GONE. I was so mad

I think it may have been after one of those "updates on your computer" deals... but I don't really remember for sure.

Hope you can get them back. I never did :(

Damn, I was hoping you wanted a spanking. :(

But seriously, have you tried any file recovery programs? (I've got Norton and it has saved my ass several times from unintentional deletions.) I don't use Monzilla, so I don't know what folder your favorites were in, but if you have a recovery program, search for the either the folder name or the titles of the individual bookmarked pages.

oh, oh that reminds me, I DID try a "system restore." You could try it. It didn't work for me, but it might for you! :)

If you are using FoxFire then look in the profile folder(C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows login/user name>\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\<Profile name>\********.slt\
), there is a folder(********.slt where ******** can be anything) in there that holds not only a backup directory of your bookmarks by date but a bookmark.bak file.

Success! Well, partial success. For some reason, the "real" bookmarks file was copied to a bookmarks-1.html and an empty put in its place.

I've restored the "real" file (THANK YOU, gauche & 'lickin) ... but the top level links are still missing. Fortunately, I had most of the bookmarks organized in folders. :D

In Firefox there's also an 'Export' facility for the bookmarks. From the menu bar, select 'Bookmarks', then 'Manage Bookmarks'. when the page opens, up to the menu bar and select 'File', then 'Export'. The resultant document is a simple HTML page which can be opened in a browser, with all of the links live. Save regularly!

There also must be a option to that as I have a folder called bookmarkbackups that gets a copy of my bookmarks.html file placed in it with a date (bookmarks-2006-06-20.html) in it every time I use FireFox.
