smacks of sheer desperation coming on the heels of President Biden's announcement to run for a second term.

it would, no doubt, cinch trump's repub nomination, and desantis is biting off more than he can chew right now in florida... but would trump's ego permit it?

possibly, if desantis groveled long, low, and publicly enough; it would give trump a sense of empowerment over what most see as his biggest threat for the nom. You can also be sure that (should trump EVER get reelected) he'd do all he could to make sure desantis got all the shit jobs and was kept out of the public eye as much as possible. I still think he'd have a problem with desantis potentially getting the presidency if trump became incapacitated.

can anyone see it happening?

In a shocking development to come after months of attacks waged against DeSantis by Trump, the former president’s campaign team is reportedly urging Trump to consider naming the Florida governor as his vice president in an effort to secure the Republican nomination in next year’s presidential election.

It would not surprise me if trump named Don jr. as his running mate.

Trump wants Ivanka to succeed him, he's trying to Make America Like North Korea.
Even he knows that the only thing that Don the Dumber can run is a straw across a mirror.

But there's a vacancy for Toupee Tucker as VP.

Desantis as a running mate would make sense and unite their respective bases. If they run against each other it will hurt both their chances .
With that being said, I hope they both die in a fire.

Trump wants Ivanka to succeed him,
I'm pretty sure that Trump and Ivanka have parted ways. I think sometime on January 6th, 2021, she told him he was ruining her children's lives forever, he said he didn't give a shit, and she hit the road.

Since they're from the same state, it could spell trouble in a close race. Assuming they carry Florida (which I have to admit they probably will), its electors would only be able to vote for one or the other of them, not both. And I don't see how any GOP nominee can win without Florida.

I haven’t seen any headlines suggesting either of those things are true. I like Desantis. I don’t think grabbing headlines and sudden popularity means you should be president. We don’t even know the outcome of Florida vs Disney yet. I was for him running when Disneygate first came out, but now I wonder how he could handle possible war with China or other foreign policies. I think he needs more experience.

florida changes law... allows desantis to run in presidential race without first resigning

The path for Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) to run for president is now clear after the Florida legislature clarified the state's "resign to run" law does not apply to someone running for president.

The provision to a larger election bill passed easily in both chambers of the state legislature, with a 76-34 vote in the House and a 28-12 vote in the Senate. It will now go to DeSantis's desk for him to sign.

He's been running since January.

The law is dumb and they change it whenever they want.

Might be a “keep your enemies closer” move that’ll also take desantis off the table

Any hope Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) might have had that he could beat Donald Trump for the 2024 Republican Party's presidential nomination appears all but dead — and that could mean his political future will meet the same fate, according to a report.

The report from NPR states that a substantial number of Florida Republican voters have been repulsed by his decision to challenge the former president, and now he faces being termed out as governor with nowhere to go in 2026.
