Have you ever heard a piece of music for the first time and could immediately identify the musician(s) playing their instrument?

Neil Young's guitar
Louis Armstrong's horn
Duane Allman's guitar
B.B. King's guitar
Ian Anderson's flute
Itzhak Pearlman's violin
Billy Joel's piano

Billy Joel just came out with a few classical pieces. They're phenomenal. I wouldn't have recognized them as his.

Now if you're talking about recognizing the songs without lyrics, of course. But, what if someone else is playing their music? Do you think you could tell if it was Billy Joel playing Billy Joel? or someone else? is that what you meant?

That one's easy. I can recognize a hell of a lot of artists by voice.

I'm damned near unbeatable in "Name that Tune", Especially in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. Most tunes I can pick in under 3 seconds. It's one of those Stupid Human Tricks we all have.

Now here's the Desperate Note. Can anyone who owns "Mad Season" by Matchbox 20 tell me if it's Chicago's horn section which plays on the "If you're Gone" song? I'll swear on astack of Bibles that it is. It sounds so much like them that it's scary.

Help!

I'm a music idoit but I know Stevie Ray Vaughn when i hear him....

I can recognize by voice

* Lenny Kravitz
* Rob Thomas ( Matchbox20)
* Fher (Mana)
* Sheryl Crow
* Stevie Nicks
* Ja Rule ! :p

just a few that come to mind. :)

Instrumentalists only? Hmmm, not many...

Fogelberg & Weisberg

Bill Evans

Bruce Hornsby

Paco de Lucia

JazzMan Jim... according to the manager of my favourite CD Store, the answer to your question is... *drum roll*... YES!:D

From the first note, whatever they are playing on, whoever they are playing with:-
Mark Knopfler
Pino Palladino (fretless bass)
Martin Taylor
Django Reinhart
Gary Moore
Buddy Emmons
Gerry Garcia
Jaco Pastorius
Andres Segovia
Just about all of the Jazz greats
Bird, Diz, Buddy, Duke, Charlie Christian, Les Paul..........
Keyboard players are harder, Jimmy Smith (60's Hammond) & John Lennon are easiest.
Singers are too easy and too many to list.
Cheers
