I just KNEW I would open this to see my name with Sparky's and Nitelight's. Thanks for the heart attack Miss L.

No, no...Christopher Walken is A-Ok in my book.

Playing with grammar and punctuation for effect is cool.

But when one is trying to communicate, it is helpful if they write in such a way that others can actually understand what they're saying. I know some think it's cute to post garbledeegook, but it's annoying as hell to me. I make the assumption that when people make a post, they're doing so because they have an idea to communicate. Apparently, some make posts just to see pretty lines on the screen next to their names.

Which is fine, if that's what they're gonna do. But if I've spent 5 minutes trying to decipher two posts by a user, I doubt I'm going to spend much time on the third unless there's a BIG payoff, like the Meaning of Life hidden beneath the funny line pictures.

Just venting. I feel much better now, thanks. ;)

LOL! No, you're fine. You post coherently, if irreverently. Which is cool. It's all cool. Not telling anyone how to post. Just exercising my First Amendment rights. "Congress shall not abridge the right of any citizen to bitch about anything they damn well please." Ain't Freedom great!?

LOL! There's a restaurant down the way from us that was called Mr. T's Cafe for years. Last year sometime, they took down their signs and replaced them with ones that said "T's Cafe". Guess Mr. T found out and whupped em.

Hey.. nobody is perfect (I know I'm not) but when someone doesn't care, puts no effort in his writings (especially on the SRP board) then it can bother me bigtime!

I don't mind a mistake here or there (my posts must be full of them) but please.. there's such a thing as spell check!

OK.. so I do miss about three posts while putting effort in my writing! LOL!
Geezz.. when I started Ambro was at the bottom of the page :D

No no no! You're absolutely fine, MMD. It's when people write posts where the grammar/punctuation/etc. is so funky that you literally cannot understand what they're saying, and you sepnd minutes staring at the post trying to decipher it. THAT'S the impetus for this ppost.

I knew it was possible. I have found a subject about which I am in TOTAL agreement with Laurel;)

It just crossed my mind that people may be paying slightly more attention to spelling and grammar in this thread.

LOL! I am guilty as charged!!!

dang you know what my problem is?? WHILST I type.. my thoughts r going 90 miles a minute and i have to use CHAT SHORTHAND to keep up.

OK OK... i know.. a long long time ago i was told abt my DOT DOT DOT DOT DOTs. Someone told me that it was very very annoying.... but you know what..... hahahaha its how i emphasize the pause in my thoughts... it works for me anyway, the visual effect, much better than commas do!!!

and like i said before I can't really keep up with my AMTRAK train of thought if i am constantly worrying abt capitalzation, abbreviations, spellin, and DOTSSSSSSSS!!!

None of it does at all. Ive been burned on my grammar many times in another forum and to tell ya the truth it dont bother me a bit, I know I am a good writer when I have to be.

But when im at a board like this one im just here to have fun and post around. Punctuation, spellin', run-ons, blah blah blah!

Who cares? Ya needa just ease off it it bothers you to the point of hair pulling.

Theres no way that you can read a post that is done, w/ large amounts of typos and lack of punctuation and be like "huh? what does it even say?" You can tell, and if somethings not spelled right im pretty darn sure you can figure it out cuz it probably aint spelled that awful bad. lol.

*deep breath* ok. lol some past complains just refreshed my memory of the craziness. hehe.

I like playing with letters like "R" and "U." It just makes typing faster and easy. Sue me.

just a thought

I don't want to sound too harsh. I actually don't mind simple spelling mistakes or grammatical errors. I make enough of them myself to stay humble. On a bulletin board, neither do I expect eloquence or profundity. This is a means of simple communication. NOTHING fancy is expected. In fact, the unexpected wit that is in such abundance here is a pure pleasure to read.

However, it seems to me that some people make an effort to write in a kind of BB shorthand that is sometimes difficult to read. This isn't a chat room, where the speed of the post can affect the flow of the conversation. There is plenty of time to backspace and correct typos, and even reread a post before hitting the SUBMIT button.

I frankly don't mind the use of poetic license and "over use" of (symbols) and punctuation.... I even agree with an earlier post that it can improve the flow of the message when being read.

It is possible that some people use BB shorthand to cover up for a lack of literacy. I often forget the rules for when the quotation marks go inside or outside the punctuation at the end of a sentence; so I just type it and hope most people won't notice. If a person is doing their best, or even a reasonable attempt at their best, I could care less if there are mistakes in punctuation, grammar, or even word selection.

A few things bug me, like wrong usage of to, two, or too; and there, their, or they're. But even these don't bother me enough to ever point it out on someone's post' or to miss the point of their message.

I'm sure I'm sounding like an anal-retentive old man, but I don't mean it that way. I remember so well, when I was a little kid learning to write, my mother telling me that some people would never meet me, and read the words I had written, and judge me based on how well I had written them. On a BB, her advice seems more appropriate than ever. I have never met anyone from this board. It is likely that I never will. But you will judge me, and I will make judgements about you based upon how each of us assemble our thoughts into words.

Just a thought.

All of it

All misuseages of improperly useded words, syntax, grammers, phonics, spalling and use of anoying &^%&&*^ expletives bother me!!!
LOL
Seriously they do!

I will post in normal conversation mode and leave in all the misspellings since Mano did not include a spell checker as one of the bells&whistles.

I NEED ONE!

There was supposed to be one with this last upgrade, but it ended up not being included. Durn it. Maybe next time.

To be clear...I don't care about typos or even downright misspellings. 'U' for you is fine, as is '2' for two or too. So long as I can friggin understand it. It's when I literally cannot understand the post, that's when I get irritated. I'm not the Grammar Police. I'm just too lazy to get out my Rosetta Stone and decode gibberish. That's all...
