Which inspires more?

Which starts the inspiration for you more, the type of erotic story (incest, lesbian, etc.) or the characters a particular situation independent of genre? It seems as though a lot of times the genre seems to dictate the kind of characters involved...or am I being shortsighted?

Shotsighted? I don't see how. I think most of us are inspired by the idea and the characters rathe than the type of erotic story--although the two aren't always easily separated. A certain idea that must involve a father-daughter to work offers inspiration by way of both type of erotica and ideas/characters.

But either one. As I crawl through life I see something that interests me. It could be an image or a person or a relating of some incident. That sparks me to sit down at the word processor and begin pounding keys (Not exactly how it happens).

Oddly, only one of the stories I've ever written have involved me (Stop fucking asking, guys!!!), and I won't say which. As I develop the plot line, the charicters develop to fill their respective places - the hot-ass party girl, Mr. Hung-Like-a-Horse, etc.

When the story is finished, I decide which catagory it belongs in. Most of the time I don't know until that point. The story unfolds, is rewritten and changed, edited and so on. The finished product is never really like my original outline.

Call me dumb-ass, but that's the way I do it.

What inspires me is inspiration.

I think constantly about things. And every so often, Bing!, the light comes on.

Best example of that is my story, The Orange Slip. I saw a painting of a woman in an orange slip. It caught my attention and I kept thinking about it. Who is she? Who's she smiling at? Is she actually going to pull it up and reveal herself to that person? Why? What happened to get them to that spot?

Eventually I got a damned good story out of it.

My short pieces of smut on the other hand are most often inspired by the women I'm smitten with on this board.
