Girlsmiley: “How would you kill ******?”
-OR-
Eyesore himself: http://stream1.gifsoup.com/view/30146/guillotine-o.gif
A little background is in order.
In a recent thread, girlsmiley asked General Board readers how they might go about committing a theoretical homicide against another named GB poster of arguable general unpopularity. The inquiry was obviously satirical with not a shred of serious intent or even a fraction of the white-hot hostility many participants here direct towards each other on a fairly constant basis.
Nonetheless, some respondents offered various suggestions on how best to do the deed while still others, “unpopularity” of the proposed decedent notwithstanding, pointedly voted against such drastic measures even on the most theoretical basis.
The GB’s singularly unlovable Eyer, however, roundly took girlsmiley to task for the overarching impropriety of using “killing” as a “childish” vehicle for humor at all, and cautioned her as to the adverse possibilities of karmaic ramifications should she ever “grow up” to an age or attitude of desirable maturity.
Now this observation from one who is so consistent in his despotic dismissives hurled at others within this forum who register the slightest dissent to his incredibly narrow world view would not be without its own darkly humorous bent were it not for the depth of the irony.
Profoundly curious as to how one person could be so consumed with such a pervasive aura of negativity, I went on a casual search through his posting history for the “Passions of Eyer;” things he loves. Seasons. Memories. Evidence of a happy childhood. Beyond an obvious appreciation for the panorama of the Indianapolis 500, I didn’t find much.
What I did find was a thread he originated this past August in which he solicited nominations from other GBers of those “Limey” Literoticans most worthy of “beheading.” I think there was a vague reference in his opening post to, at that time, recent beheadings by ISIS in Iraq or elsewhere.
Like girlsmiley, Eyer’s thread was also obviously satirical with not a shred of serious intent. He did, however, gleefully add the names of several critics to his list of nominees as they responded with disapproval or perplexed awe. He also, in one subsequent post in the thread, graced it with the actual quillotine animated gif above.
Despite the same benignly satiric intent as that of girlsmiley, Eyer’s unabashed hypocrisy in having so recently engaged in the identical behavior of one he so enthusiastically endeavored to shame was too much for me to ignore. I posted a link to his “beheading” thread in girlsmiley's thread for all here to marvel upon.
Why do I bother sharing this information in THIS thread NOW? Because my discovery and subsequent posting of Eyer’s latest unbridled hubris took place in the wee morning hours of yesterday, and was viewed by very few of you.
In the hours since, both girlsmiley’s thread and Eyer’s earlier thread have been deleted from the GB. I inquired of Laurel early Sunday afternoon as to why this action took place, and she patiently reminded me of guideline #5 of the Forum Rules linked at the bottom of this page and further advised me that one or more members of the Lit community had objected to girlsmiley’s thread as being in violation of the spirit, if not the precise letter, of that prohibition. Although initially unaware of Eyer’s similar thread, Laurel has apparently exercised her judgment that its content was equally unacceptable.
And that’s good enough for me. I’m not the least inclined to question the discretionary rights attendant to anyone’s ownership of an internet domain, and most certainly not that of owners like Laurel and Manu who have worked so long and so conscientiously to successfully produce a venue in cyberspace of such conspicuous value and acceptance.
But it is also my heartfelt belief that all of us in our roles of public advocates deserve to be held accountable for our statements. No better holding of accountability exists than comparing positions of marked inconsistency or contradiction uttered by the same speaker over different periods of time.
The intent of THIS thread, then, is to do nothing more than that – hold a miserable little miscreant accountable and deprive him of any plausible deniability he might undeservedly have gained from the justifiable enforcement of forum rules while simultaneously providing him no relief from whatever public humiliation he might have experienced had he actually possessed the requisite humanity.
We return you now to your regular General Board programming already in progress.
Poll to follow.
