Which category?( I know an always popular topic)

Have my story ready to go the editor, my question is where to list it. It’s a ‘Father-in-law’ story, so it could fit in loving wives, but readers seem to hate that category. It could go incest/taboo but it’s not incest since they aren’t related but is definitely taboo, just not not sure those looking for ‘family’ will like it. Mature is possible since it’s an older man. And finally the ‘fail-safe of erotic coupling.

If it is tender and romantic I'd say put in IT! Probably will do well there.

Erotica defines incest very broadly, and, as you post, father-in-law is at least taboo, so Incest/Taboo seems the best fit to me from what you've posted.

It's a matter of picking your poison. What NotWise said is true. There's a choice to make.

The best category "fit" for the story concept you described is Loving Wives. It has the biggest audience, and if you post it there you will get the most readers, probably. Although they are sometimes obscured by the existence of the negative readers, there actually are a lot of readers in Loving Wives who enjoy the kind of story you described.

But you also will draw hostility from the legion of readers who hate "cuck" stories, and they will give bad scores.

So if you want to avoid lower scores and nasty comments, and don't mind posting in a category with fewer readers, post it in Exhib & Voyeur. I have posted wife stories and similar stories in this category with very good results. And it's possible, although I have no way of knowing for sure, that because the stories got better scores they ultimately got more views and more favorites, as well.

The vast majority of readers in LW are fine. There's a small cadre of readers that are there for destruction, trashing anything and everything. Delete is your friend and if you look past the morons, there is a ton of comments, voting and readers in LW.

Well written and entertaining stories do ok in LW, although there is about a .25-.50 point penalty. Or you can take an easy category and get high scores but little interaction.

I think that stories in smaller categories like E&V pick up a lot of their early reads off the New Stories list, and the readers aren't specific to the category. I've had early comments that suggested the reader didn't even know what category the story was in.

As a result, a few easily-offended cuck-haters will probably find a cuck story regardless of how it's categorized because they're reading from the New Stories list.

It's probably too late for a category change to help your story. It's pretty common that most of the views your story gets come in the first day it's up. That's already over, and it's likely to take another week to get the category changed.

I think the "official" method for getting the category changed is to resubmit your story with "EDIT" appended to the title. Make sure you specify the correct category, and in the notes to the editor, tell Laurel what you need.

The unofficial method is to PM Laurel, provide her with a link to your story, and ask her to change the category. She did that for me once when traffic was half of what it is now. I don't know if there are enough hours in the day to get that kind of attention now, but that's the only way it would be done quickly.

Wait a week.
Global substitute the character's names.
Change the title.

You don't need to do any of this. To change the category, resubmit the whole story with the same title plus the word EDIT. Change the category and add a note to the editor saying what you've done. Wait a week or longer (edits are low priority).

Doing it this way preserves the meta-data and comments. The story won't get listed on the new category's front page though, not unless it's a very slow moving category and the original submission date is still valid.
