Where's the outrage for Tamir Rice?

The outrage following the shootings of Brown and Martin earlier wasn't only about the shooting and/or the racial element. It was the (at least precieved) lack of accountability and due process.

Gonna happen here too if it follows the same pattern. We'll see.

No it was and is only about the racial element. Period.

Those that needed a big turn-out by blacks in the midterms were waiting and hoping for an incident, this was the one they chose to run with.

Mainly yes. Not only.

You didn't get the same kind of riots and pandemonium after that black guy got choked to death in NYC, or after that other St Louis shooting, of after the guy with the bb gun got shot at Walmart.

Because in those cases, the police weren't complete fuckwits in the aftermath and managed to de-escalate it below the boiling point, if not completely. You got a grumpy Al Shapton on TV. Not burning cars and looted stores.

Because you didn't have the President and the AG whipping it into a froth just before a major election.

It is bullshit that this wasn't handled. It was from the DOJ from the beginning.

it was in uk news. it really is beyond belief. the sort of thing you expect from some third world police state.

the caller even said they thought it was a toy, but the dispatcher failed to mention it. still, he was obviously a kid. they didn't even try talking to him.

it's tough... I think the emotional reaction of a child's death could overshadow the issue. but why zoom up so fast, so close and just shoot?

I can understand the panic of seeing a gun, even though it wasn't pointed at them when shots were fired. it was obviously a dumbarse way to tackle the situation... so close, so fast, no room to manoeuvre.

I think a lot of people who are older, who have kids, would have taken the risk of being shot to talk the kid into dropping it. he was so obviously just a child.

He had this pointed at him:

It had the bright orange tip removed. From a distance this looks very much like a real 1911.

Why you gotta be like that. Did you watch the video.

From a distance...it wasn't even a car length.

Is that what we pay cops for

Fucking chickenshit cops shooting a little kid.

But like you and JBJ say...trust your government and the cops...they always have your best interest at heart.

this is absurd

even for YOU

Question is....why isn't Sharpton running around screaming? Too busy wasting his time in a justified shooting than he is about this one:rolleyes:

Amazing that this really is a twelve your old child and there is no big uproar

I guess that only works when people show pictures of thugs when they were ten.

I agree with your opening statement but....

Ummm you think those rioters vote?

What I'm wondering is why there's no outrage coming from the people you'd expect to be outraged, and no, I don't mean Al Sharpton. I'm talking about the gun lobby.

Let's assume the police really did think Tamir Rice was an adult, hard as that is to swallow. What was he doing wrong, really? Holding a gun that the police thought was real? So what? Thanks to the efforts of so many public-spirited constitutional conservatives, Ohio is an open carry state. You can walk around with any kind of weapon you like, legally.

I am puzzled by the relatively small number of these gun activists who have spoken out against this shooting. Maybe they're just busy hanging their lights.

I forget things like that.

My take is that they have learned that every time they make noise about the evils of guns...it drives up the sales and popularity of guns.

The video doesn't tell the whole story, read what the dispatchers were saying over the radio to the cops. I'm not taking either side. I didn't see what happened.

In my state this kind of thing happens from time to time, kids remove the orange tip in an effort to take advantage of the realistic appearance. They use them to intimidate people, and commit armed robberies. It's easy to second guess that cop when you weren't the one trying to decide if this was the last day of your life, and had a split second to decide. In many cases it's just a fact of life, if you point a gun at a cop, or any other armed person, you're putting your life on the line. Few people are going to roll the dice. Here they call it suicide by cop.

not taking sides, until paragraph 2 where you take sides. very good.
