I have a story that is about 40 pages in MS Word (about 20,000 words)? Should it be posted in chapters under one category even though the individual chapters could be posted under different categories (erotic couplings, exhibitionism, nonconsensual, mature, and 1 or 2 chapters that don't fit well in any Lit. category)? Or, should the whole thing be posted in Novellas? What constitutes a novella?

Well, some people seem to think that if you're posting a series of chapters as part of a single story, it belongs in novels/novellas.

Personally, I think the "chapter 7" in "Doing Damien, chapter 7" is fair warning to readers that they're dipping into a multi-chapter piece, and as a reader, I'd rather know whether the content pertains to lesbian sex or non-consent than be re-alerted that the installment I'm about to read is part of a greater whole.

As a writer, I tend to post chapters of my longer works in the category I think is appropriate for the content (so one might go in non-consent, the next might go in gay male), both out of consideration to the reader, and because I hope that posting in a variety of categories might give me exposure to a more diverse readership.

Aside from that, for what it's worth, I've heard it mentioned that the novels/novellas category is not as widely read as others, but the voting scores tend to be more kind.

bonne chance!

Twenty thousand words isn't that long in my opinion. I've posted a lot of stories that were that length or longer as single works. Most of mine don't stick to a single sex act either.

Usually they were the most voted on and viewed pieces.

My advice is to post it as one piece. And probably in Non-consent. A lot of people don't like that category and get upset when they read it in other cats.

Add a caveat at the start of the story explaining that when it comes to sex you're wandering all over the map. Then people can't complain as you did warn them.

Forty MS pages is approx five Lit pages - not all that long. If you split this into separate chapters, you'll end up with very short ones. My advice would be to post it as a whole work in Novels/novellas, with an authors note at the beginning mentioning any contentious scenes that are present (for example, non consent / incest / gay male. This should stop people then bombarding you with hate mail because they read something that offended their delicate sensibilities.
