Seriously. Where is he? I haven't heard word one about or from Cheney during this disaster. Where is the VP?

Um, the only reference I could find was that when Bush had a video conference at the beginning of this debacle, Cheney was in Wyoming. (on vacation, I assume)

Found this mention in the UK press, dated Sep. 4. Must be tomorrow in the UK.

" Vice-President Dick Cheney remains on holiday in Wyoming."

New Orleans a 'ghost town' for nine months

I'm amazed there is a dearth of mentions in the US press. Don't we care that our VP is nowhere to be found during this crisis.

Madame Tussaud's?

*cough*

It's probably better for him not to be around. Bush is bad enough on his own. With Cheney there, he'd be twice as bad.

I wouldn't care if he *ahem* never turned up again *cough* :D

I see a story here...the lonely fly fisherman was just minding his own business, threading worms, when he meets a mysterious girl at the lake and somehow ends up encased in wax...

Someone's got to keep the fires of Hell burning. That coal doesn't shovel itself, you know.

From Above Citation

. . . . The criticism is all the sharper because the President did nothing to alter his holiday schedule for 48 hours. Vice-President Dick Cheney remains on holiday in Wyoming. Condoleezza Rice, the Secretary of State, returned to Washington after being seen shopping for $7,000 shoes in Manhattan as New Orleans went under. . . .

If you read this citation you will learn that after a Fly-by Photo-Straffing of New Orleans, Incurious George played a round of golf with Ken Lay.

All in all, a rather unusual response from an Administration that has just declared a State of Emergency, init?

I was reading about the tsunami disaster of 2004. There were many, many complaints about the US's lack of response. It turns out that President Bush was on vacation at Crawford, Texas when the wave hit. He was unable to cut short his vacation so the American response (originally a mamoth pledge of $15 million dollars in aide) had to wait until the vacation ended.

It's obvious to me that these damn natural disasters had better start happening when the President isn't on vacation.

On the other hand, if I were an al Quada operative, I'd be planning my next operation around Bush's vacation schedule.

Is this true? Is this really true?

I need some corroboration. I can't believe Rove would let him do something like this.

Well, it's not like he's running for re-election, so why not squeeze in some golf?

VB: as I read it, the story did not come out and say that he was playing golf with Ken Lay. I mean, could he be that oblivious? Could he be that callous? No wait. Don't answer that.

Well, I found several articles about this for Aug. 29:

Bush says Medicare drug plan 'a good deal'

Jodie Snyder
The Arizona Republic
Aug. 29, 2005 01:48 PM

President Bush came to the Valley today to get the word out about how Medicare beneficiaries can get prescription drug coverage.

"This is a good deal," Bush repeatedly told a crowd of more than 400 people at the Pueblo El Mirage RV and Golf Resort in El Mirage.

Bush spoke for more than 30 minutes to the group, most of whom were senior citizens.

~

Although the schedule topic was Medicare, Bush also touched upon other issues, including:

• Hurricane Katrina. Bush said he wanted Gulf Coast residents to know that "the federal government is prepared to help you when the storm passes."

• Energy. Bush told the gathering that he knew they were concerned about gas prices. He said the country needs to encourage development of nuclear power and clean coal technology and ways to bring more liquified gas from around the world to the United States.

That's what they *want* you to believe.

Have you noticed that when Bush speaks, Cheney's lips hardly ever move?

He was, it was in quite a few of the papers over here. Photos and all.

Photos? Really? I couldn't find anything on Google. Do you remember which papers?

Daily Mirror and the Metro, the last one I'm not too sure of. If I can find it I'll take a pic of it with my webcam. It was of Bush and Lay and captioned with the paper's disgust at him playing a casual game as N.Orleans drowned...

And there was a photo of our Commander-in-Chief taken looking out the window. He looked very serious and concerned.

That was yesterday. Today he played golf. No kidding.

I’m sure the people of New Orleans would have liked to show their appreciation for the official Presidential photo-strafing, but their surface-to-air missiles were wet.

There is nothing new under the sun. In 1927, a Republican President had his photo taken as the Mississippi rolled over New Orleans. Calvin Coolidge, “a little fat man with a notebook in his hand,” promised to rebuild the state. He didn’t. Instead, he left to play golf with Ken Lay or the Ken Lay railroad baron equivalent of his day.

You are correct, it's Coolige who played gollf "with the Ken Lay railroad baron."

It doesn't say who Bush played golf with.

Thanks for the correction.

I figure Cheney's brain slug was poisoned after being attached to such a venomous host for so long.

There isn't a replacement on this planet (We're not the only people whose beauracracies fuck up) so they have Cheney in suspended animation until a fresh one can be shipped from Nebulon 7.
