A lot of people just find an image that they like and resize it to fit the requirements for an avatar. Something like 150x150 pixils or some such computer thingy. I found mine on the web. Just looking for different things and came across it. In the " How To " forum of the board a lot of wonderful people are willing to do resizing for you if you just ask.
