Where do I find the number of votes for the rating if the story is not on the first page of a category?

If I mouse over a story rating on the first page of a category, it shows the number of votes for that rating. Everywhere else, I do not see the number of votes if I mouse over it.

What am I doing wrong?

Not sure I can be done en masse, so to speak, which is what I think you’re asking. That said, if you open up any given story, its length should be shown, top right, as a number followed by ‘k’.

I am looking for the number of people rating the story, not the number of times read. On the first page of each category, if you hover over a rating, you see the number of votes. That number does not seem accessible on any other page but I may be mistaken.

Try going to the "index" page which shows all categories, then above the categories, find "Top Lists - Our most popular stories, poetry, and pics."

Click on that Top Lists, then find the category you like, and it will list the top 250 stories. You can select the top 250 from "all time", last 12 months, or last 30 days. Each story title in that list shows the rating with number of votes.

I think you might be able to do that if you track it down in the all stories list for the category. That list will have like 10,000 stories, alphabetically by title if I recall correctly, and if you find it in there I think it gives the vote stats the way you're talking about. Well it doesn't seem to on my phone and I can't check on my computer now, but I think I recall seeing it do that. It's the a b c etc links at the top of the category hub.

I tried hovering the ratings on the first category page, over the new stories listings and over the alphabetical pages, and all I get is a little box that says "Rating". I tried it for a couple of different categories, all the same.

I'm using Chrome, but I don't know that's going to make any difference.

Like Lifestyle66 said, the top lists show the vote totals but only for the top 250 or so stories listed.

I have a feeling it's only the Top Lists that show the number of votes a story receives, it's not in the public data for the rest of them. The author knows obviously, but not the rest of the world.

Not sure what the number of votes tells you about a story though, since the vote/view ratio is so low. I guess the more votes, the score has a bit more validity as a rating.
