Where do I actually write the story?

You write it in your computer, and, yes, stories should be submitted only through your individual submissions page. The web site selects stories and has posting criteria. Stories should go through that gate.

(your answer was a lot less snarky then my answer was going to be....)

Well, perhaps I'm also being obtuse, but I can't see how to do it either. I went onto the main Literotica site and it says:

"submit stories and poems directly from your profile, using the Submit links at the top of the member page."

But there are no Submit links that I can see.

Are you logged in on the main site? As I understand it if you log in there, you're automatically logged in here but it doesn't work the other way round.

Either way - go to your user profile on the main site and there is definitely a submit button

Ah - thank you, Bert! I assumed the two places were one and the same, and perhaps the original poster did, too.

Once I logged into Literotica itself it was all clear. But I wonder why they have to ask you to login separately for the same site?

I just go to the Story page, log in there, and it opens my submissions page.

Another way to get there: Read a story, any story, after logging in. At the bottom of every story page, you'll see your name, right above a LOGOUT option. Click on your name, and VOILA! You're at your profile page. Then you can click on SUBMISSIONS and SUBMIT and SUBMIT STORY, and you're in action. (Let's not discuss the baggage of the term SUBMIT, as in kowtowing, etc.)

Oh, good! I'm glad you cleared that up...I thought that was only for stories in the BDSM category...

I guess that depends on how much you'll submit to, hey? "Submit, you swine! Grovel on your belly like the piglet you are! One, two, kiss my shoe!" Or maybe sweet submission. Just as long as I don't have to submit JCL.

I think you can select stories to read and go to porn sites even if you are not a member, but you have to be a member and log on to submit stories, create profiles, etc.

but if I submit it, does it need to be approved?

Yes. And one person does the approving. There aren't many rules, but there is no bestiality, no underage (i.e., under 18) sex, and you'll help your cause if you have proper punctuation and grammar.

A trick I use, after using whatever way to log in to the main site, is to bookmark my author's page, and my submissions page. One will list my stories (and favs etc) while the other does all things regarding submitting stories (following comments, etc), which you MUST log in to view.

Bookmarking the submission page helps reduce the chaotic feltercarb of sub sub sub menus to get to the submission page.

Logging in to the "main" lit sight, logs you in to the bulletin board forums, but logging in to the bulletin board forums, doesn't log you in to main site.
Don't ask me why.

YellowBarroned, submission length can vary but expect 3+ days for approval, so sit tight while waiting.

If you need to write something, but don't want to keep the document on your computer due to wife, kids, dogs, whatever, you can go to ZOHO.com. It's a free document service. You must be connected to the internet at all times for it to work, though. When you're done, you can just cut and paste from Zoho to the Literotica submission page.

Just to add that approval takes several days and if you open the submission while it is pending it will get moved to the back of the queue. Ignore the number of 'reads' you get while it's pending. These are just part of the checking process.
