the homeless people you see who are dirty are either mentally ill, or just plain lazy.

i'm the survivalist type, i have lightweight equipment and the essentials that would make homelessness more comfortable. even in the winter. my tent is rated to minus 40 F

Resources for the homeless vary city-to-city.

In my area, there are two main "shelters" that serve the homeless population. Both of them have some fairly strict rules about who can actually stay in the shelter and how often, but they both provide facilities for people to bathe, shave, and wash their clothes regardless of where they're sleeping at night.

Anyone with enough quarters can ride the bus.

I recommend Florida for anyone considering the bum lifestyle. I have a friend that woke up in a parking lot after a particularly rough night out and in the time it took him to piece the night back together and locate his shoes, he had made $50.
