There they heard and started using the word 'cumshaw'. it's an old mariners term meaning that something was 'liberated', as in "I cumshawed that wrench from the mill". The perversion came in when my Okey family put their accented twist to it and it came out "comshaw". When I started using it as a handle I spelled it the way my Dad pronounces it.
