Think of all the really funny folk in history. Sahl, Bruce, Gregory, Carlin, Prior and so on. Every single one of them is left wing(with the possible exception of Bruce who was apolitical) . In most cases far left wing. Today's best comedians, guys like Chris Rock, Dave Chapelle and David Cross are all left wing too.

So, is there something inherently unfunny about right wing folk, or is there a big right wing comedy movement that I don't know about?

and I don't mean AJ-like laugh at them funny.

Isn't it obvious?

Being on the far right is inherently un-funny. Those folks have no sense of humor.

Come on, you mean Todd doesn't have you rolling on the floor?

I thought Oral Roberts was pretty funny. You people just don't appreciate My Humor.

I still can't believe Oral fell for that I'm going to call him home if he doesn't raise money gag.

Political Humor.

"Clinton lied. A man might forget where he parks or where he lives, but he never forgets oral sex, no matter how bad it is.
Barbara Bush
"

Liberals only recognize humor directed at their enemies. Anything else is a "Vast right wing conspiracy" fomented by "baby killing right wing radicals", best dealt with by personal attack like Al Franken's "Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot".

Very similar to the intent of this thread, what?:p :p :D

I suppose the above is a great monument of conservative humour and yet, well it's not funny. It doesn't ring true. I've had friends forget oral sex because they were too drunk or stoned or catholic.

But, conservatives and liberals are close to equal in number so where are the funny jokes about Hillary Clinton? Where's any conservative with any sort of a sense of humour? It's not a personal attack but a question.

I've been told that I have a decent sense of humor, and you know that I'm a conservative.

The weird guy on Jon Stewart's show is (I think) a conservative.

I think that part of the "problem" is that liberals tend to be more creative than conservatives, maybe by their very nature. I can admit that if there were no liberals in the world, TV and the movies would probably be REALLY boring.

There HAVE been conservative comedians, and I've been trying to remember names, but they keep escaping me - that's not a cop-out, it's a time-out. I'll come up with some eventually... or go crazy while it sits in the back of my mind like the name of the person you just passed who you used to talk to regularly and the name keeps escaping you as it creeps ever closer to the tip of your tongue without ever getting there...

But I'm rambling now.

<-- Conservative

Excuse me?

So I write REALLY boring shit now?

Liberals own the media. Do you think liberals will pay conseratives money to be funny politically? Right. That'll happen. It's not that conservatives aren't as equally scattered among the population as liberals, it's the money. Follow the cash and you'll find your reason.

The Pope don't pay liberal priests and Ted Turner don't pay conservative people.

I apologize - I often over-generalize and this was a case in point... but as a general rule, I stand by what I said.

Uh, uh, uh. It's Jews that own the media. Jews and the lesbian dentist cartel.

So Bob Novak, Tucker Carlson and that creepy lady from the National Review are all crazy tree huggers in your book?

No, but you're running a spun-political blatherfest here, why get bitchy when we run with it?

Check out P.J. O'Rourke, there are several
books and don't forget the National Lampoon.

I'm not getting bitchy in the least. I'm just pointing out the obvious falsehoods in your statement. CNN does pay conservatives. CNN and other "liberal" shows(like politically correct) bend over backward to include a conservative voice

Besides, while you might call the media liberal(another ridiculous statement) now the media was certainly conservative back in the fifties and sixties. It's the system that Sahl, Bruce, Gregory and Carlin rejected and turned on its head.

Even as such I guarantee that if a really funny right winger got out there he'd get enough gigs on Rush Limbaugh and Fox News to get well known.

Actually, Rush RARELY has guests - and when he does it's usually a phone call from a politician. He wouldn't let anyone steal his spotlight.

I'm not a huge P.J. O'Rourke fan but he is a legitimate example.

The National Lampoon is an interesting example. It was started by people(Doug Kenney, Michael O'Donohughe and Henry Beard) who were as left wing as it could be. It was a really tight left wing underground humour mag for its first few years. It was ran as a sort of intellectual commune(No one, for instance, had the title of Editor-In-Chief for the first 7 years)

But then O'Rourke took over, gave himself the title of Editor-in-chief and did three things. Alienated the people who started the magazine and turned it into a huge success, changed the tone of the magazine(From intelligent satire to sophomoric hijinx) and, not to mince words, ran the magazine into the ground.

The National Lampoon was only a right wing magazine when it was irrelevant.

Actually, there are quite a few, but most of them don't call themselves "conservative comics". If you're funny, you're funny.

Louis Black of the Daily Show is one of them. So is Dennis Leary, believe it or not.

What it ultimately comes down to, in my opinion, are two things. First, there are things about which it's proper to laugh and things which aren't. Conservatives are funny to laugh about. Liberals aren't. Second, in the case of this thread, it's funny when someone you don't like is being made fun of. If it's someone you like, then it's not funny.

This thread is funny.

Conservatives have no sense of humor. Here in Cinsanity Ohio, we have one of the all time best political/editorial cartoonists to ever skewer the powers that be. His name is Jim Borgman. Check him out. He is an equal opportunity dart thrower he villifies the left just as much as he does the right. The big difference is the response he gets. Anytime he lampoons a right wing cause there are the inevitable letters to the editor complaining about the liberal bias of Mr Borgman and the Enquirer in general. (Which is a joke in itself because this paper makes Fox news look balanced, favorite columnists in it are Cal Thomas and Walter Williams)

On the other hand I have yet to see any complaints when he skewers a left wing issue. Why? In my opinion we "get it" and can see the humor. Conservatives don't get it because they are slightly paranoid and take themselves far too seriously.

About the "vast right wing conspiracy" utterance that Hillary has been raked over the coals for. I thought that idea was a bit farfetched...but you have to admit that the whole conservative dogma is based on some ethereal, shadowy group of left wing idealogues with a specdific agenda. Conservatives have a noticeable paranoid streak in their platform. The whole Kenneth Starr special prosecutor fiasco had a definite witch hunt flair about it. That smacked of a right wing conspiracy much more than anything the left has done.

Personally...I think there are plenty of conservative comics...49 in the Senate and a whole bunch in the House.

:D

Me up there

One more thing.....Franken's book is wrong..

Rush ain't fat no more.

See....you write a book skewering the right and they take it sooo personal.

Oh, Yeah, The liberal media such as Fox News Network (owned by good ol' rupert) which just surpassed CNN as the most watched network, Rush Limbaugh, and all the other liberals own the media.

Much as I love ya KM, you're wrong on this one.
