O.k., so I have a buddy named Mike. He's been my best buddy since college. He's just the kind of guy that had it all going for him. Well off family (father's the CEO of a /major/ bank, can't say which of course), good looking guy, social, etc.

He happens to be the biggest dork ever. I mean, one would never guess we even knew each other... he's a total gamer/comic/rpg/fantasy/sci-fi/etc. geek, in the guise of a totally normal human being.

And he wrote a book.

He always was a good writer, and an avid reader--even back when we were living together. He was the writer, I was the talker--it was a good relationship.

I figure we have a pretty diverse community here, at the AH, and maybe someone would want to purchase his little opus. There might be some that dig that kinda thing.

Be thankful he loves you anyway?

Uhm... I must submit that people who don't enjoy the above list are not so "normal" as they might think.

As for your hot, "geeky" friend... sounds like my kinda guy. I've been RPGing since 1979, I write comics, I love scifi and fantasy. I would love the rare guy of that sort who isn't a 300lb couch potatoe.

He actually wrote an RPG manual?

That isn't normal writing, that is like the triathalon of writing. It isn't even like he just used the D20 open license either, this is an original system.

That takes some damn dedication.

Naw, a real friend would still consider his buddy a total geek--he just wouldn't think that was a necessarily bad thing.

I still say "bah" on what's normalcy. I'd still venture the gamer/sci-fi/fantasy/etc. people are not the majority.
But, yeah, my boy is a right catch. Right down to it, he got married and everything. He definitely looks like your classy kind of guy, he's from a polo/khaki background (as am I) and you'd sooner think he spent his time at an Abercrombie than a Bookstore.
And, total geekfest. I love 'im.

I know. He's a real talent. This is one of several things he's done, its just the first one he's ever thought to put to "publish". If I knew what a d10 was, I'd probably be more interested--essentially. For the time being, I'm just supportive of the general enterprise.

D= Dice
10= 10 sides

2d10= Two ten-sided dice

I speak fluent geek and a little nerd as well, being a recovering one helps.

They make ten-sided dice?

*slaps forehead*

Ok, they make d6, the normal dice. d4, d8, d10, d20, d50, and d100. I think that is all.

That is really cool, congrats to your mate on getting it together and getting printed!

It's not my thing, I'm afraid but I hope he sells loads, and if I meet any RPG'er I'll point'em to that page :D

Some guys are sports dorks, some are car dorks, some are gun dorks - in the grand scheme of things, this guy seems to be pretty well adjusted insofar as he actually did something to profit from his dorkishness.

I'd much rather be a happy focused dork than trying to figure out what I can do that will make me happy and possibly provide an income that lets me fulfill some goals.

With a d100, can you even accurately say which side is up without a level meter?
