Total fucking bullshit. When there is equality there can be no liberty. Go back to school.

What political ideology would such a statement fall under?

I've always considered Vette a fascist, but this is more of a Genghis Khan kinda statement.

The greatest joy for a man is to defeat his enemies, to drive them before him, to take from them all they possess, to see those they love in tears, to ride their horses, and to hold their wives and daughters in his arms.

I saw that when he posted it yesterday and couldn't work out what the fuck he meant. Guess he thinks those black folks had more freedom when they were slaves.

Definitely a peek under his robes.

America has a serious problem. In previous generations, Americans valued liberty over equality. In other words, people were little concerned with equality of income, but were far more concerned with everyone having the same opportunity to achieve whatever level of prosperity their talent, hard work, and luck could bring. Yet today, we have such a clamor over “income inequality” coming from the liberal ranks, with many of the most strident being those who have achieved the level of income of their dreams. For some reason, now that they are successful, they suddenly want more government redistribution of wealth. Of course, this government redistribution won’t affect them appreciatively, but it will affect those who aspire to their level of success. The more government becomes a player in the economy, creating more complex regulations and picking winners and losers, the less access to capital there is for motivated people who want to create something new and make other people wealthy in the process. We know these people well: Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Warren Buffett, and Sergey Brin to name a few. Surprisingly, all tend (or tended) to lean towards the very liberal causes that hinder the success of those just starting out.

That's nice. Now why don't you post something that's relevant to Vettebigot's comment?

I know, you racists only want the racial side of life, MORON.

Why are you making Vette's comment racist? What about gender or economic equality? Or religious equality? Shouldn't there be a level playing field for everyone? Isn't having equality of opportunity the very foundation of liberty?

Who is making it racist?;)

Your half-brother sean brought up race. ;)

He used slavery as an example refuting Vette's statement. He could have used a multitude of examples where the lack of equality inhibited liberty. The premise of Vette's statement goes well beyond race, even though slavery is a good example.

koala bear calling anyone racist is like cade calling everyone else a troll. cade does the "you're a racist" thing too, actually.

koala = cade?!

THIS EXPLAINS SO MUCH

You should go live in Cuba, everyone is equal there.

Someone needs to read the Declaration of Independence.

Maybe it was a typo and he meant to say, "Where there is inequality there can be no liberty."

You have no idea what a fascist is.

Tax and regulate the shit out of the entrepreneur so the junkie can live on disability and welfare and corporate cubicles for the mediocre majority with taxes automatically taken out ...and create tax loopholes for the already wealthy.

Philosophy of government that stresses the primacy and glory of the state, unquestioning obedience to its leader, subordination of the individual will to the state's authority, and harsh suppression of dissent. Martial virtues are celebrated, while liberal and democratic values are disparaged

If you don't think that describes Vette, you haven't been paying attention.

It describes every monarch and dictator and commune and junta.

I spent 2 years in Spain when Franco ruled. Spaniards did okay and it was safe to walk the streets. Now, the socialists have bankrupted the country, 1/4 are outta work, and al Qaeda runs the streets.

Not if you were Catalan, Basque, liberal democrat, communist, anarchist, trade unionist, woman fleeing an abusive husband, homosexual, gypsy etc., etc.

You don't need to go back that far, you can find an American quote, e.g., John Randolph of Roanoke: "I am an aristocrat. I love liberty, I hate equality."

I *think* what he means is, if we're all held to the same level of achievement/acquisition, we're holding back those who would otherwise achieve/acquire more.

The phrase Equal Opportunity has been comically denatured by a right-wing that would/should otherwise be agitating for something described that way in this country.

There seems to be some fear that, by allowing others the same chance to achieve as you or I have, we're handcuffing ourselves.

That's some Maryana-Trench deep insecurity right there.
