Have you ever submitted substandard work, AKA crap :D, just to submit something as though that would make the writer's block give up and move on? Or am I the only one?

Robert Frost said, "I never write exercises. But sometimes I have poems which fail, and I call them exercises."

So... it wasn't crap! It was an exercise!

I usually try not to exercise in public, though....

Nope, that's why I haven't submitted anything in half a year.

Damn, it is just me. *sigh*

No my dear. I am quite tempted to submit crap. At least that way I can get the public feedback/ridicule.

I know right now I'm in a fledgling stage. I've really only set my heart to this for about 2 months. I denied myself my dream to write because I thought it was unrealistic and wouldn't pay anything. I can't deny my dream anymore. I still have a lot to learn, but I'm willing to do so and become better.

Oh yes. In fact, I've even submitted bad stuff as a way of punishing myself for having writer's block in the first place. It's like, "Okay, if that's the way you're going to be, than how do you like this embarrassing crap with your name on it, huh?"

Sometimes the only way you can handle that stuff is to put it away from you, and throwing it away just won't do. You've got to open the window and fling it out into the world to get it out of your system.

Everyone eventually posts someting they just aren't happy with. All of us have "that" story or poem that we just knew could have been great, but somewhere between inspiration and posting something critical was lost. Some go back and have it removed, some go back & re write or heavily edit, some leave it and hope it gets better with age ;)

In the end we all deal with problem child stories. How you deal is up to you, but you are not alone.

That's what you do when you have a deadline. And it's best to set a deadline or you may start thinking everything is substandard and never submit anything. If you're really concerned there are two things to do. Create a list of editing to do. (1. look for lack of description, 2. look for too much description etc. etc.) then when you get to the end of the list submit or you can ask someone else to read it. Otherwise, you'll just let a manuscript sit languishing in a desk drawer because you're paralyzed by fear that it isn't good enough.

EXACTLY!

Bless you, Dr.

Yup. If only I could scoop it out of my brain as imagined, all would be well. ;)

I just submitted a couple, min, so don't feel bad. They're pending, and I'm regretting having submitted them.

I want to see if everyone else thinks their as half assed as I think.

I have that oh-god-what-did-I-just-do feeling every time I click "submit," too. I have stuff posted that I keep thinking I will take down and re-work, but my heart is not in it. If your new submissions have the straightforward complexity of your poetry, I don't see that there will be anything "half-assed" about them.

Luck,

Yui

Sadly, I never let words languish. I probably should.

If you regret it enough, you can always pull them back. I hope you don't, though. :rose:

You don't know how much that touched me....but thats what I fear sometimes, that my work is too complex.
